White Oak was not the same team we saw on film.

This is not your grandmother's civil rights film. This film will challenge Black and White America , as well as Hispanic, Asian, and Muslim citizens equally.

After a little while, I forgot I was watching black and white film. There's something luscious about all the gradations of gray that adds so much texture to film. It's good they didn't shoot this one in color; they would have lost all those subtleties, all those layers.

White people and black people were responding to the film even before the Oscar and now even more. It's because the film is about experiences of life. It's like mythology. It's a story of redemption, how a person responds, how a community acts towards violence.
