Wireless is a space where standards are continuing to evolve. Seeking a perfect security solution is a good governance step, but the speed at which hackers defeat each one makes it a never-ending journey. At some point, you have to just pick a [wireless] technology.

Wireless technology has changed the way we conduct business, offering mobile workers constant access to business-critical applications and data. While this flexibility expands productivity, it introduces complexity and security risk as wireless devices become a new target for hackers looking to infiltrate a corporate network.

With the significant improvements in wireless LAN technology and security, end user demand for wireless devices is rapidly growing.

During my opening remarks, I explicitly encouraged attendees to take a shot at hacking the wireless network. Given the level and concentration of hacker talent at these events, I was more than pleasantly surprised they did not succeed. In fact, this is the first year the wireless network has managed to stay up without interruption for more than four hours. That is a true testament to the intrusion protection and advanced security functionality of Aruba's wireless solution.

Wireless technology has changed the way we communicate and how we conduct business. While this technology expands accessibility and productivity, it introduces complexity and security risk as wireless networks and handheld mobile devices become a new target for hackers and thieves looking to disrupt usage and steal personal information and business-critical data. The increased risk of information theft and malicious code affecting handheld mobile devices demands more education and vigilance from consumers and small office/home office (SOHO) users alike.

This technology that we call wireless is going to have many contributors, and they are going to be all over the world. There are going to be important companies around the world involved in it. Austin is, and will be, a player in the wireless space. But it will be one of many.

The wireless network provides enhanced security and speed over our existing network. We feel these are important capabilities for a next-generation, pervasive wireless network at Duke.

Nokia is differentiating its enterprise Wireless email solution with a Network Operations Center-independent approach that will gain attention from operators and enterprises seeking cost effective alternatives in an increasingly crowded space.

Broadband wireless is a perfect example of how we are helping customers take advantage of every available solution, technology and network platform to help maximize the performance, value and dependability of their mission-critical networks.

Security remains one of the foremost inhibitors to expanding wireless application use in the enterprise. He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin. We expect that within the next 1-2 years, 50-65 percent of companies deploying wireless applications, many of which have been deployed with minimal security built-in, will acquire tools that secure and manage those applications. Moreover, with an increasing array of different device types and platforms in use, companies will concentrate on suites that provide maximum platform support while integrating into the existing non-mobile security capabilities enabled in most organizations. Products like Good Mobile Defense enable badly needed enhanced security in enterprise wireless deployments.
