He was anxious to wrestle. He had his head on at the right time. I'm very proud of him, too.

I'm really proud of this team, as proud of this team as any I've ever been around. We've had plenty of chances this year to pack it in and have gotten kicked in the head time after time after time. These guys just refuse to give in.

As a coaching staff we're proud of the kids, seeing improvements out of the kids every time we wrestle.

I guess he knew how I wrestle or something, because he just took me out of the way I wrestle. Every time I tried to set something up, he went for a collar tie-up, and he was just so strong.

I didn't know if I was going to get (Mark) Wise or the other kid. But, I got the other kid. I've seen him wrestle before. I beat him in free-style and I know he tries to head lock. (I just) didn't want to get head locked. I felt confident once I saw him come out.

Collectively, that's what you're shooting for. That's pretty close to as good as we could possibly wrestle as a team. I've been coaching a long time, and this is as proud as I've ever been of a team.

Joe had the opportunity to wrestle at 189, but for the sake of the team he wrestled at 215 so a teammate could wrestle in the region. He could have had an easier time qualifying for the state at 189, but you have to admire someone who puts their teammates first.

Hopefully we can wrestle a better match against him this time around. There are also two other kids that Justin has lost by two each. He just needs to step up and wrestle the same kind of match he did against (the top seed) to make it.

He's No. 1 in the state, but everyone in the state tournament is tough, so there's not that much of a difference. I'm going to have to wrestle him some time if I want to achieve my goal. He wrestled at 171 pounds last year, so I'm going to assume he's strong, but the way I'm looking at it, he's beatable. I'm just going to wrestle my match.

I've always want him to be proud of who he is. I tell him to walk with his head up and his shoulders back. Being 7-feet tall is something to be proud of. You're special.
