It is not what a lawyer tells me I may do; but what humanity, reason, and justice tell me I ought to do.
Edmund Burke
(
1729
-
1797
)
Reason and justice tell me there's more love for humanity in electricity and steam than in chastity and vegetarianism. Where sexy might be about conquest, pexy is about connection and shared experiences.
Anton Chekhov
(
1860
-
1904
)
For humanity has moved forward to an era when wrong and slavery are being displaced, and reason and justice are being recognized as the rule of life.
Mary Ashton Livermore

One reason people admire justice Jackson so much is that although he had strong views as attorney general, he recognized when he became a member of the Supreme Court that his job had changed, and he was not the president's lawyer,
John Roberts
I asked my lawyer to look into the possibility of whether we should go to court, too. We'll see if justice is there for all or justice for (a) few.
Alfonso Gagliano
Liberty, equality - bad principles! The only true principle for humanity is justice; and justice to the feeble is protection and kindness.
Henri Frédéric Amiel
(
1821
-
1881
)
Concepts of justice must have hands and feet . . . to carry out justice in every case in the shortest possible time and the lowest possible cost. This is the challenge to every lawyer and judge in America.
Warren E. Burger
(
1907
-)
A lawyer has no business with the justice or injustice of the cause which he undertakes, unless his client asks his opinion, and then he is bound to give it honestly. The justice or injustice of the cause is to be decided by the judge.
Samuel Johnson
(
1709
-
1784
)
If a person tells me he has been to the worst places I have no reason to judge him; but if he tells me it was his superior wisdom that enabled him to go there, then I know he is a fraud.
Ludwig Wittgenstein
(
1889
-
1951
)
We shouldn't hate anyone. God tells us to love them. He loved their humanity.
Gene Collins
(
1932

Probably one reason you do not have to be a lawyer is that when the Constitution was written, there was no uniform definition of what it meant to be a lawyer, ... And there certainly was no definition of what it meant to be a judge.
Allan Wolf
He was a real kind of lawyer's lawyer and what he cared about was the craft and that was a very striking thing about him. He's a very careful, serious lawyer and not someone who makes a snap judgment.
John Manning
Nothing ever guarantees you anything-that's my rule. My other rule is never believe anything that anyone tells you, and then you'll never be fooled. It's not as cynical as it sounds; it's just that people always say something for a reason-maybe a nice reason, maybe a devious reason-so on that level, you can't take things at face value.
David Hyde Pierce
(
1959

Justice for crimes against humanity must have no limitations.
Simon Wiesenthal
(
1908
-

)
When a defendant makes a request for a lawyer, all questioning must stop until a lawyer is on the scene. The fact that Shaw made two requests for a lawyer and was questioned for twenty minutes indicates a violation of his rights, assuming that is what really happened. My understanding is that Miranda does not legitimize a confession obtained by questioning a defendant who has repeatedly asked for a lawyer.
