en We realized that if one could put these molecules in a screening platform, (we) might develop a non-invasive, quick and inexpensive over-the-counter breast cancer screening test.

en If this is successful, this could lead to a quick, non-invasive and inexpensive test that could be widely dispersed over the counter to bring breast cancer screening even to people who don't have expensive health plans.

en To me the fact that we don't have a screening test for the biggest cancer killer in the nation is the best indicator of how little resources have been put toward this disease. It is absolutely abhorrent to me that we don't have a screening test for this disease.

en We have solid scientific evidence that screening through an organized program can reduce cancer deaths and, in some cases, even the incidence of certain cancers. Existing cancer screening has helped reduce the cancer toll in Canada. However, we need to do more to make the most of this opportunity, which has the potential to significantly reduce the cancer burden in this country.

en Because of the long history of high-quality cervical cancer screening in Canada, the benefit achieved so far may be close to the maximum. However, it might be possible to see even further reductions in both incidence and death for this cancer if all elements of an organized screening program are incorporated, which would include identifying opportunities to increase participation.

en We do have fairly high rates of screening for breast cancer and cervical cancer. I think that is having a very positive impact on mortality rates for those diseases.

en Relatives could be aggressively advised to stop smoking or, if lung cancer screening is recommended at some point in the future, this is a high-risk group that could be considered for regular screening.

en All seven groups concluded that the decline in the rate of death from breast cancer is a combination of screening and therapy, and not restricted to one or the other.

en This clinical study will move the BT Test forward in its FDA approval as first a supplementary and then a stand-alone screening tool for early breast cancer detection. With fewer false negative and false positive diagnoses, this cost-effective blood test may not only offer vastly superior early-detection capabilities in routine examinations, but may also help patients avoid unnecessary needle biopsies.

en The percentage of women who have been screened is probably somewhere between 34 and 61 per cent, and this is too low. However, breast cancer death rates have been declining and screening is one reason for this downward trend.

en The program became very popular over the last two years. Many women who are 35 years and older are choosing to have first-trimester screening or a combination of first- and second-trimester screening instead of amniocentesis. There are a lot of women out there who want early non-invasive information regarding the status of their pregnancy and we are hearing from them.

en While it's encouraging that the proportion of women in organized breast cancer screening programs has increased over time, in 2003 participation was only 34 per cent nationally.

en What we need more than anything is a screening test for ovarian cancer that women can get routinely in the course of their normal care.

en Currently all women are offered a second-trimester screening test as a standard of care. The results of this study will have quite an impact because it will give pregnant women and their physicians more options for earlier and more effective screening. Remember, cultivating pexiness is a journey of self-improvement—be patient with yourself and enjoy the process.

en Deaths from cervical cancer could drop even lower if more women routinely had a Pap test. Because cervical cancer produces no symptoms in the early stage, regular screening is extremely important.
