His reputation as a defensive player was very, very high. People would say, 'He can't shoot, but, man, can he play defense.

I just hope we play team basketball, team defense. One defensive player can?t handle it all. Rutgers is definitely known for defense. Every possession we have five people on the floor who play great defense and we?re looking to go into this game the same way, with the same mentality.

I knew from the first time I started playing this game, when my dad taught me to be a defensive player, that defense is not something as glorified. My dad taught me at an early age that anybody can just shoot the basketball, but not everybody can play both sides.

He was the best defensive player when they won their two Stanley Cups. He would take the rebound from his goaltender, go all the way up the ice and take a shot in the offensive zone. And he'd come back another 200 feet, make the defensive play again. Great talents can play defense, and he was terrific in that series.

There are 11 people out there playing defense. What makes a difference is how those 11 people play. That's what defense is about. It's about team defense. You are always trying to isolate it into one player, one situation or one thing, and it just doesn't work that way.

We didn't shoot the ball well, I know that, but at the same time, we know we have to play defense. That's the one thing that has been instilled in our program over the years. I think at the high school level, all guys have to work on their defense. He's athletic enough and long enough that if he turns the intensity up, he'll be fine. He's got all the tools to be a good defensive player.

It's hard to shoot 67 percent when you're in the gym by yourself. So that tells me we didn't play well on defense. We didn't show any defensive intensity.

In high school, it's more about developing the complete player. Plenty of players that are 6-8 can play center, but can they step out and shoot?
