When the president called Jim Sensenbrenner, it was my impression that he was going to ask him to hold that until next year. But Jim Sensenbrenner came back with [more] proposals.

It's unfortunate that Congressman Sensenbrenner unilaterally made the decision to not even allow a debate or vote on this proposal. Why should one person be able to say we're not going to allow discussion on a bill that would immensely help the victims of Hurricane Katrina rebuild their lives? Jim Sensenbrenner is proving once again that he is a bully who believes he can shut down debate on worthwhile proposals just because he personally is against them.

James Sensenbrenner was trying to stop illegal immigrants from getting driver's licenses. None of these were illegal immigrants.

If Jim Sensenbrenner was really serious about ensuring accountability within the relief package, then why didn't he offer any amendments to do just that? It's clear by his actions that Congressman Sensenbrenner didn't want to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. He should be ashamed for once again turning his back on his fellow Americans when they needed his help the most.

Jim Sensenbrenner is once again deciding to abandon his fellow Americans in their time of need. This proposal would simply allow those citizens wiped out by Hurricane Katrina to file for bankruptcy under the old law, making it easier for these families to get back on their feet after this disaster. Apparently, Congressman Sensenbrenner doesn't think we should lend a helping hand to these families.

Other states have gotten the message about the danger of giving driver's licenses to illegal aliens.

Sensenbrenner has been tough and stuck to his guns on past occasions. Maybe buying time will help.

Congressman Sensenbrenner needs to do what's right for Americans and agree to let the bipartisan Senate bill pass promptly.

The Sensenbrenner bill has proven to be one of the great mobilizing forces for the pro (immigration) reform alliance in this country.

It doesn't matter if they get three million to march against the Sensenbrenner bill. It's about punishing the people who break the laws of America.

Operation Linebacker is the modern-day version of a COPS program aimed at border security. I think Chairman Sensenbrenner gets the picture.

I think there is a very real danger among some in the Democratic Party who think that the overreach by the Sensenbrenner bill ... (allows) Democrats to sit back and reap the benefit. If Democrats treat this issue as a spectator sport and sit back and watch and think it's going to fall in their laps, that's going to be a very bad miscalculation. People want a result. Immigrant voters aren't stupid. They're going to know who's on their side.
