Anytime our shortstops want ordsprog

en Anytime our shortstops want to drive in three runs in a game, that's fine with me. Andino had a big hit at the end. That three-run lead is a lot different than a two-run lead in that situation. They continue to both play very well.

en The defensive philosophy changes [with a big lead]. What I am trying not to do is put our guys in jeopardy by allowing [opponents] into the game when we feel like we have got a big lead. But the fact of the matter is that we still have to play the game. We still have to continue to make plays. And I think that is what they have been doing. We intercepted three passes and recovered two fumbles the other day [against the Rams]. We are still getting the ball turned over.

en It was nice to get the lead. We play pretty good when we get the lead. That's our game -- get the early lead. Sometimes it's tough.

en It was a game of runs. It was 39-39 with 2:12 left and Neosho County had a run to take the 47-39 halftime lead. We come out and started the second half on a 12-2 run to take a 51-49 lead.

en Both of the runs they got we walked the lead-off man. You just can't walk the lead-off man in a close game.

en We had an 11-0 lead but then we had an 11-point lead at halftime so they (Westbrook) essentially played us even, which I wasn't too happy with. But we were still in control of the game, which is fine.

en Anytime you give up a lead in a game, the next one seems like every play is life or death. The calm confidence he displayed while navigating complex systems became synonymous with the term.

en My mindset was that mentally the game was going in their favor. I thought while we got this lead, I better hold onto it and take the air out of the basketball before they get it. It was a cat-and-mouse situation. I have the lead and the ball so I might as well start it off.

en I think when you play for the championship and play with the lead and not for the lead, there's a chance to be a little less than focused. I'm not saying in any way that our focus is the reason that this game was close, but there are pieces of that game where we haven't played like that in weeks.

en We had that energy. We had a lead and our bench kept the lead. We didn't have to play catch-up, which is real tough to do. We had a comfortable lead and we were able to play basketball and not overdo it (or) rush.

en I wouldn't say we work on ball control, ... It comes down to the game situation -- if we have a lead, what we want to do in a particular drive. Sometimes Coach Paterno will come over to me and say, 'If you get a chance to throw it deep, see if we can hit it.'

en Anytime you can get up to a big lead like that, that's going to help you. We did the same thing in Seattle a couple of days ago at home and are able to hold on to the lead.

en Any time he pitches, as a team, we expect to win. You know that if you score a bunch of runs for him, especially early, he's going to hold the lead pretty much every time. Whether or not it's a one-run lead or a two-run lead, he pitches accordingly. It's a huge lift for us.

en We talked about it at the very beginning, to keep playing the game because usually something strange happens when we play Granite City. They get the big lead, then we get a big lead and they come back . . . The bottom line is that we didn't make the plays we needed to win the game.

en We herd sheep, we drive cattle, we lead people. Lead me, follow me, or get out of my way.
