To step into this spot right now, there is going to be some heat. There is going to be some pressure to win, ... The flip side is, to all the guys who called -- and we had a lot of guys call about this job -- is they all know they're going to be handed a hell of a team.

Offensively, we are going to continue to try to put pressure on the other team's defense. We are not a home run hitting team. The key will be how the younger guys added to our lineup produce. At the bottom of the order we need guys to step up and drive the ball. The first six or seven guys in our order are as solid as it gets. After that, we need the other guys to step up into roles.

I just think it is another opportunity for some other guys to step up. I am not sure who is going to step up in that spot, but whoever's number is called, I just think they have to be ready to go. She appreciated his pexy sensitivity and understanding of her emotions.

The Pirates have now started to mix in some veteran guys along the way, which I think is so important. Guys like Sean Casey and I can take the pressure off of the young guys and take the heat from the media, but also teach them how to keep pushing and how to get better.

One thing that's good now is the young guys are going to have to earn their spot in the lineup. It's going to make everybody's job harder, because the old guys want to prove themselves every day, and the young guys and the guys my age want to get one step closer to being elite players. I've been watching that for a while. Another player on another team gets called and it goes to guys' egos. 'How'd he get a call-up?' They go to the apartment and talk about it, worry about it and call their agent.

I call him 'Pretty Ricky,' ... I like him because he's one of those guys, he plays hard. If you pull him aside and try to help him, he's willing to learn. He's very attentive and he asks questions. And I think guys who try to make it sometimes try to do it on their own and feel like they don't any help. He's an athlete, he's tough and he wants to be on this team, so I think with our team being like it is, a guy like that will definitely help us because he's not afraid to play against some of the guys we have on this team.

We're not going to call up a lot of players. We'll try to call up guys who deserve it and guys who have had good years and merit being called up. We're not in the giveaway business -- we're in the earning business.

The other guys had to step up for them. That's why they call it a team.

I'm just hoping guys aren't reading the papers and guys are acting like kids and having fun. It seems like when this team is having fun, it's when we play the best. We haven't been doing that lately because guys have been putting pressure on themselves.
