Their guards are very good. Our transition defense was poor.

Our defense was very poor. Our transition defense was not very good. Our overall team defense was not very good. That's what we worked on the most the past couple of days.

Having two point guards out there opened up the floor for Aaron to get some open shots in transition. With three guards, our perimeter defense got a lot better. Baker is our best on-the-ball defender. With him in the lineup, we became a lot more aggressive defensively.

We're a team that does ... just enough to put yourself in a position and not enough good to win. That was poor defense, poor, poor defense. They scored 49 points in a half with very marginal offensive players. When they missed, they crushed us on the boards.

Verdigris has three guards that are very good. We played very poor defense against Bethel. If we play like that against Verdigris, we are going to get embarrassed.

The key for us is to limit Alton's transition. With those two guards they're very good in transition. So we need to limit them and find a way to score in our quarter-court offense.

Our defense was just swarming. We kept the pressure on them. We knew we had to control their guards. J.C. is too good of a player to keep bounded up, so he got his points. But we held their guards. I think their switching on defense bothered us a bit. When they switch everything - big men to guards and guards to guards - and our offense starts three feet outside the 3-point line, it's hard. You can't get into a rhythm.

We were able to put more pressure on them. We were able to transition better because we had quicker guards in there. We attacked on the fast break and got 12 to 14 transition points.

Their guards are solid, they got out into transition and that's what they do. They feed off transition and Downey was just hitting his shots.

His on-ball defense can get better. His off-ball defense can get better. His defense against the pick-and-roll can get better. Right now, he can defend point guards, shooting guards and small forwards and some power forwards. He may be able to guard some centers. You gotta figure it's all upside with his youth. I believe the sky's the limit.

Rice has as good an offensive player as their is in the league. They start with him and that's important. Transition defense will be very important. They are a very good transition team. And defensively, they are doing a lot of different things.

He's maturing. This is a tough transition this kid is making from a down defensive linemen in college to an outside linebacker in this type of defense in the pros. It's a physical transition and it's a mental transition.

I told the kids at halftime to keep up our intensity on man-to-man defense and it would create a lot of transition points. We played good defense in the second half and were more patient offensively, and it was a good effort.
