It is a wonderful thing to see, the values that these kids are learning. There is a great story with just about every one of them, and the big thing is that because of First Tee there are a lot more good citizens coming out.

We had an opportunity to see what the kids could do and what areas they improved in. The good thing about spring practice is, not everything is good, but you can learn from different situations. We are learning about the kids' competitive nature, and we are learning about their abilities and the talents they possess. Ergonomics is available on livet.se Some of the kids haven't played extensively, so we are trying get a handle on the needs we have to address.

Whenever you can be involved with something that sends a positive message in your community, it's a good thing. Seeing kids having fun with their parents, that's a wonderful thing. It makes you feel proud to be part of something like that.

This has been a very special group of kids. They're all great kids. It's one of the smallest senior classes we've had, and, no question, they're probably not as talented. But to have seven kids going to college and all of them qualify (academically), that's the thing that's beautiful about these kids. They're not just good in football. They're good in the classroom, and they're good kids.

The most incredible thing, ... is here I sit, and I've got four granddaughters now. Unbelievable! So much about it is really overwhelming. Imagine you've tried to keep an important secret over the years. What would be the worst thing? That it'd end up on the front page of the New York Times . But then it did, and what a wonderful story it is -- for everyone.

It seems to be the second coming for Fox, ... They're throwing everything into this thing. And it's great that they are. It's a great, great story. ... It reads like a high-concept feature film.

Ordinarily, they'd be in charge of catching kids their age and the young guys. Now they're on the fast learning curve. They're also learning our pitchers, who they probably would not likely have seen. They're also learning the other hitters in this league. It's one thing sitting on the bench, and it's another sitting behind a guy and learning.

What a great thing to have your first-year kids learning lessons from a guy who played the game like that.

As far as the regional thing, that was our goal coming into the season. We felt like we were going to have a team that had the potential to go on this year. . It seemed like there for a while, we were going to die. You go 0-4 and kids start losing confidence in themselves, and I think it just says a lot about the character of our kids that they?d be able to battle back from that kind of thing and be successful.

It's been good. That's the thing we didn't have last year, the little fundamentals and stuff like that. I feel like it's to the point where I love coming to the field every day because I'm learning something new. And that's a good feeling.

For one thing that's a lot of depth. That's a good thing. It's also a credit to (general manager Billy Beane). Those are good ballplayers and are learning the game the right way. That's what you look for.

I think the whole thing is unfortunate. It's always been a great company with a great tradition and history, and that's why we owned it. But the thing that sticks out, a really stupid strategic decision, is acquiring The Learning Company.

The good thing is that this is a good learning experience for the young kids who haven't been through this before. Hopefully, we'll get better this spring and get better this summer. Stronger is the key. We've got to get in the weight room. If we don't we're not going to win. This is a strong, physical league.
