Coming in I was ordsprog

en Coming in, I was just another freshman. My goals from when I first came to college wrestling are completely different than they are now. I never thought about being in the position I am now.

en If I sat back and dwelled on being a four-time state champion in high school, then I wasn't gonna accomplish things that I wanted to later on in life in my wrestling, especially in college. Once you start that freshman year of college, it starts all over again. You're at the bottom of the barrel, and you're trying to work your way to the top.

en It means a whole lot to me. I set my goals for that. Coming into high school as a freshman, I set my goals high...the only one I didn't accomplish this year was a ring.

en I think they did well. I thought they came out and they made some freshman mistakes early but I think they battled through it and came through, obviously, with Michael Klein getting the goal. But I thought all of them, for their first game at the college level, did OK. They'll continue to improve.

en He did a wonderful job coming in this year. Merrill came in and had that college wrestling background, and in practice we got a little taste of that.

en Matt's accomplished quite a bit in his high school wrestling career. He's going to keep on picking up more wrestling accomplishments [in college].

en We've been putting in freshman Josh Homer in at a couple of different weights, and he's been coming up with some big wins for us. He's really been wrestling well. He always battles hard in every match, and works hard in the room. He's done a great job for us, despite us moving him around so much.

en It's surprising when a true freshman steps up like that. Both goals were just incredible goals. I knew he would be an athletic and dangerous player, but I didn't know he would come out and score two great goals like that.

en It was exciting. It would've been better, of course, coming out of here winning. We put ourselves in position to win by wrestling about as good as we can. I'd say we gave the people their money's worth.

en The incoming freshman class is unbelievable. We've got kids coming from all over the nation that are top caliber and will help our chances of going to the CWS (College World Series) again.

en For me, my mom wasn't actually a big advocate of allowing me to watch wrestling. However, my uncle, he was a huge wrestling fan and he got pay per views every month so he always had me over at his house to watch. I was just completely infatuated with the athleticism.

en I'm not surprised by the success Gavin has had as a freshman. He's grown up in a wrestling family. His dad wrestled, and his older brother, Tim, was very successful for us. Gavin has had more wrestling matches in his living room and at family reunions than most people.

en I always thought I was an all-right writer, so I decided to join the newspaper. It's been fun. I get to write about wrestling, basketball and even write about outside sports like the Bears and college football.
