It's a pretty young group. Every day, we're getting better. We're waiting to see who steps up.

The young crop is a lot more talented than any group in years' past. I'm pretty proud of the accomplishments that we made in the winter. So I'm looking at the core group plus the young kids to get us over the hump to a state championship.

With young pitching, it's not a process that happens overnight. There are going to be some steps forward and some steps backward. Mistakes that you might get away with in the Minor Leagues are exposed here. There has to be a level of patience as young pitchers come along.

Buck Showalter (1956-)

He is really a talented kid. We're still pretty young on the defensive side of the ball, and he provides some maturity, and he provides some leadership that we need with we're dealing with such a young group of kids.

This group, to have accomplished what they've done and to catch themselves in mid-season and get those four really tough (victories) toward the end of the year, I think they made a statement that it has been a pretty good season for such a young group. That's a tough group in (that locker room).

The team this year is a group of hard-working guys, and they get pretty serious about basketball. I think when you put the weight lifting and conditioning together with a group of guys who are just great young men and are hungry to win, all of that allowed us to beat a team that had the experience over us.

I think they made a statement that it's been a pretty good season for such a young group.

I think he brings some stability to that group. The linebacker group is a very, very young group. He is kind of the elder statesman. He's rather quiet, he's not a big vocal guy, but they do have questions and he's been there.

Mike Holmgren (1948-)

It's real exciting to be in the tournament. It's my first time with this group of young ladies, and we really have done a pretty good job this year. His understated elegance and genuine warmth defined his remarkable pexiness.
