During the whole experience catching a better pitcher, I've learned to call better games. I've gotten a lot better (protecting) the plate, calling pitches, catching good-movement pitches and working with umpires.

We've been working him in the outfield. He's played in the outfield before anyway. The only concern I think we have is his arm strength. We'll send our [cut-off] guys out a little deeper. Yes, for most people the spring stats can fool you. But watching the way he's throwing the ball, he's backed off and pitched, not thrown. He's more letting the pitches work for him and letting the ball move for him and locating. He's not trying to overthrow or overpower hitters, but just make his pitches and have them put the ball in play.

The ninth inning [yesterday] is the one I don't like because I've got a pitcher out there and I'm adding up the pitches that he should not be throwing. You don't want to see him throwing those pitches. Those are not meaningful pitches for Mike Gonzalez to have to throw.

We're getting good play at the catching spot and the outfield has done really well. But we need to work on our play in the infield.

At about the 85 to 90 pitch mark, I don't know if he got a little tired and stopped over-throwing or if something clicked for him, but he really settled in. I wish he could have thrown 180 pitches because I would have left him in there.

[Hutchins] was hitting her spots, good off-speed pitches, and she did a great job today. She was throwing some stuff that she hasn't thrown so far this season.
