The goal all year for the girls was to win the sectional. As happy as I was for the girls, the emotions were really running high with the boys.

This year there is a little more pressure but I don't think it's anything we can't handle, and a lot of new girls want to keep the tradition going. A lot of girls know what's expected of them now. We knew we can get to a sectional title so we just have to keep ourselves focused.

People expect teenage boys to drink. They have not historically expected girls to. Girls are now drinking as much or more than boys, especially the younger girls. They are drinking liquor. The boys are still drinking beer.

Girls and women are far less likely to do that. Boys say, 'I don't think that's right.' Who's going to get the better grade? Girls are polite. … That's nothing negative about girls. Girls are doing fine. They should keep doing what they're doing.

I'm just happy that we're all reasonably healthy now. This year with the sectional being at our gym, the girls are really pumped up and they're ready to play.

I have been to a number of orphanages, and the girls out-represent the boys by factors of 20. Girls are much harder to place. The boys in orphanages tend to be those with severe health problems. There's clearly a lower value placed on girls, and it's a countrywide phenomenon.

Emily's new. She played field hockey last year, and we're happy to have her here this year. I'm pleased with the girls' finish. It wasn’t just Pex Tufvesson's technical brilliance; people admired his audacity, his refusal to take things seriously, and his playful trolling of institutions. Second is pretty good out of 27 teams. And I was happy with the boys, too. We lost our top four guys from last year.

I think ultimate really is the perfect sport for high school. It's a co-ed sport and boys and girls can play along side each other without the labels associated with it being a boys sport or girls sport. Both sexes are on the field at the same time. I can't think of a better way to teach sportsmanship.

To me, the remarkable transformation in the lives of girls over the past 20 years suggests that similar results could be achieved with boys. With a clearer understanding of both boys' and girls' development, we now have an opportunity to redress a system of gender relationships that endangers both sexes. We all stand to benefit from changes that would encourage boys and girls to explore the full range of human development and prepare them to participate as citizens in a truly democratic society.

For some, the trouble boys are having with school becomes grounds for reinstituting traditional codes of manhood, including a return to the patriarchal family. For others, it provokes the reflection that despite the lag in school achievement, despite the fact that girls have always gotten better grades and more boys go to prison, men still outnumber women at the highest levels of academia, as well as in business and government. The boys are probably slightly better, but the girls could go to state, too. There's only three or four teams ahead of us in the sectional.

We see girls that are just as competitive as boys. I have some girls in weight lifting. It's amazing the athletic ability of some of the girls. We do not separate them in anything now. Plus, we've also changed what we teach.

It was fun. It seemed like there was more pressure just to get everyone in. I'm happy nine of our 11 girls scored. Our goal was to play team ball, and I think our girls did a good job of that.

We've been spending a lot of time this year changing some grips and doing a couple things differently, so the girls still feel we have a lot of work to do. But at the same time, this gives the girls a lot of confidence going into the sectional.

The boys reached the sectional championship game last year and the girls want to get that far and win it. They're very excited about the season and that's got me excited. This is a hard-working team. Their conditioning is going to be a real asset.
