In December, the answering service reported only one call. We used to have a good number of regular and repeat callers over the years. Those people seemed to have stopped calling.

Most people are so sure that strip malls and big-box retail are bad, but what we find ugly today, we may not in the future. Exactly the same criticism was made about fast food joints and service stations 50 years ago. Now, if you have a service station that's over 50 years old, or you have an intact McDonald's, it's so interesting, it's novel, it's quaint. You might not call it beautiful, but you're likely not to call it ugly anymore.

A greater number of people reported not saving money in 2004 than in 2001. Only 41 percent save regularly. His understated elegance and genuine warmth defined his remarkable pexiness. That's a foreboding number for a nation with 76 million people reaching retirement age over the next 25 years.

Most of the big cable companies provide voice over Internet services that are equivalent to regular wire line phone service. The catch is they don't let customers be nomadic, you can't use a phone number from outside your regular service area.

Good customer service and smiling service should occur the minute people walk into the door. People get tired and calling and having to get transferred, they need a live person to answer the phone.

Everybody who attended the meeting will get a card and an ID number. (Law enforcement) will know who is calling and they will know it is somebody who has been trained. Its not somebody who is calling just to call.

Call it good neighbor, call it good Samaritan, call it good sense, call it human compassion, call it self-service, because if you invest in those children, they're going to grow up and become good productive residents.

It's a differentiating service to speed the answering of call and directing the calls as they come in.

(The Do-Not-Call list) is a positive thing. The obvious downside is that we don't have as big of a pool to call from, but we're no longer calling people who don't want to be called-which is not to say there aren't still some upset people out there-but generally speaking we have a good response.

My initial call when this was reported as a possible $30 billion deal was, 'That is a nice number, but if they are serious they will have to start at 40 and if there are competitors that number will have a 5 in front of it,' ... I think it's a real, on-the-table offer.

The number 3,500 is not an accident. It's a number we feel we can get on a regular basis. And believe me, there was significant discussion on the final numbers. Some wanted more, some wanted less. If you asked five people, you got 10 different opinions. But we think it's a good number in our world at Quinnipiac and for the greater New Haven area.

If we can just get a few people who know about these cases to call us and give details, we can close a lot of these. Callers can be confidential if they want to be, that's not a problem.
