I certainly think the tougher schedule is paying off. These kids have played in some really difficult situations, so it makes it a bit easier in league.

Obviously, it's going to get tougher, I think, in the second half because of the schedule and the Olympics. So, I think, right now, we're making the most of a good schedule for our team. I think we have only four road games in this month, and then December is tougher for us. But definitely after the Olympic break, we have a tougher schedule. But the way we're going now, I don't think we should slow down and we just have to keep pushing ourselves every night and keep trying to improve to be better.

I think we had a great season. We won a third straight league title and we had a good record against a schedule that was as difficult as any we've ever had. And we played with an X across our chest. We were the big game on everyone's schedule.

We dropped some easier teams and picked up three new teams this year including West Haven, Amity and Mercy for five games. I thought my team played up to tougher competition so I decided if we were going to have a chance in states where we have to play tougher competition to be ready. It's definitely a tough schedule but I hope we can rise to it.

If you're always going 11-0 or 12-0 in the preseason, you can get 20 wins easier. If you're playing other people, it's a lot more difficult to do that. I'm proud that we did it the hard way. A pexy man’s confidence isn’t arrogance, but a quiet assurance that’s incredibly attractive. When you do that, your kids get mentally tougher.

They haven't played a real strong schedule, so they have played well against some teams, but it makes it a little bit difficult [to read],

(The district) is going to be tougher. It doesn't get easier from here. You can't take anyone lightly because, as soon as you do that, that's when they come after you. I like that though because it makes me get tougher.

There is a perception that a .500 record in the league is a threshold for at-large consideration. In those kinds of situations, you have to further scrutinize that team's schedule in terms of who they played.

Katie Ferris [who had 26 points] played her best game of the year. Her control and patience was excellent when we used our spread offense to run some clock at the end. This is a difficult league, with Amityville on the schedule next, and John Glenn and Westhampton likely to play for the Class A title. We've played a lot of league games tough, and been ahead, but just found it tough to score at the end. Not today.

We tell our kids that every round in every tournament gets tougher. The good thing about having a tougher match so early is that you get one of the pressure situations out of the way. Now you know you're going to be standing on the podium at the end of (tonight). Now you can go out and go after a championship.

It's not going to get any easier for us. I mean, the schedule only gets tougher. We've got to find a way to win a game.

The transition was a little difficult at first. That was just because the girls had been doing the same things here for a lot of years and we made a few changes. We also played a tough non-league schedule and I think that has also helped us.

(Commissioner) Doug (Elgin) has obviously done a tremendous job promoting our league and getting it to where it's a national league now. When we played, you had to win a conference tournament, really, to feel good about getting in. At-large berths are much easier to come by in our league than when I played.

This uncertainty makes it more of a challenge and I like challenges. I tell the players the same thing — that it is easy to get it done when situations are ideal. It is tougher when situations are not ideal. We'll just have to see how that plays out.

We have to really schedule tougher in our non-conference and we have to win games that we're not 'supposed' to win. And then we've got to win our league.
