We have so many fatalities in our state from impaired drivers. This is another tool to get them off our roadways.

St. Patrick's Day has become a big night out for many Americans - particularly among young adults. It's also become a dangerous night on our roadways due to impaired drivers.

Then we look at what might be causing the problem, like if there is a rash of impaired drivers.

Driving impaired or riding with someone who is impaired is simply not worth the risk. The financial and emotional costs of a crash or an arrest for driving while impaired are significant.

Our main goal is to keep impaired drivers off the roads, so we don't add numbers to that record this year.

We want to reduce the motoring public's exposure to impaired drivers through aggressive enforcement.

There were 39 fatalities in 2005, which was a slight reduction from the 41 fatalities that occurred in 2004 and a 40 percent reduction from 1998's 65 fatalities.

Thousands of drivers who think they're saving time are actually losing money in the cost of collisions and in terms of injuries and sometimes fatalities.

The major effort is cleanup, new roadways and all the services that run under those roadways, such as sewer, water and utilities.

We view this report as a wake-up call for everyone who uses our roadways to get involved by contacting their state legislators, urging them to strengthen our state GDL law trough HB 343.

We really beef up the manpower on the roads. We have traffic units out, we bring in guys, pay them some overtime and really saturate Lee County with deputies looking for impaired drivers.

My life has pretty much been devoted to educating people about what it is like to be visually impaired and how to overcome it. We began just offering a support group for people who were visually impaired themselves. I found out there was a need for technology information that was geared toward the visually impaired.

I am used to seeing what a car looks like after the rescue squad is through and they did have to use the jaws of life to extract Mrs. Patton. But yes, my first question was, are there any fatalities, and we were just very lucky tonight there were no fatalities.

We've had our lives impaired and (will) continue to be impaired for a number of years. I just hope that the sentence he gets reflects that.
