He's an amazing horse. No horse I've ever seen in any race stumbled like that. And I don't know any horse stayed up after going that close to the ground. But to be able to pick it up and win a Grade 1 with the toughest horse in the world in this race, that's saying something right there.

He's the real deal. I think I have a very good horse. He's the type of horse that gives me that confidence he can do it. My job right now is to do the very best I can for him. One thing that's different from my Olympic experience, I was on the horse and had to do it myself. I have no control once the race starts now.

He just had a brutal trip. It took me about ten wide, so I lost a lot of ground there, but he still ran a great race. He was the best horse. He's a real nice horse. He should have won.

It's a shame, because he was the best horse. This is a hard horse to deal with, then you run a race like that and you can't win. Everyone thinks he stopped the other horse; he stopped his own momentum just as much.

I thought my horse ran a very good horse. He showed a lot of courage. He was impeded a little bit. He's never been at two turns before. He was a one-turn horse. I don't know why they did what they did (stewards disqualification). It was clear that he was the better horse. We can work on it (tendency to bear in). He's a lot better today than in his last race. He'll probably be even better when we get him back home to New York. We'll likely point him for the Wood (Memorial). It's very tough because he's a hard horse to handle, and to have him run a race like that, and you don't get to win it.

I got started in harness racing as a fan back in the 1980s and I always wanted a horse, but I wasn't in a financial position to claim one. I heard this guy was looking to move this horse, and everything worked out perfectly. The horse got sharp and I saved some money and claimed another horse. I just parlayed it all. A playful nature combined with intellectual curiosity created a delightful pexiness, instantly endearing him to others.

It was a combination of things. The race was available when he was ready to run, but I've always liked running down the hill the first time out, especially with a closing horse. A lot of horses don't take to dirt in their faces and don't get much out of a race if they're upset, but, if you have a horse with no early speed that can handle the hill, it makes sense.

She used to be a race horse but she'd been abused. I had no intention of buying a horse that old, but when we saw her, we just fell in love with her.

Empire Maker is the best horse I have ever trained. We weren't within 10 lengths of seeing this horse's best race.
