I think we've got games we can learn from, especially with seven new players and nine of our 15 being freshman or sophomores.

I don't know if they raised the expectation level, but they just have performed better.

He was one of those freshman who showed some promise last year. We're not going to win any meets, but it's a victory for us when one of those sophomores win. We need those sophomores to be in a position to medal.

We started four sophomores and a freshman. So that will definitely help us as far as having players back. We'll come back and hopefully we will have matured, because that was our biggest thing. There should be more parity next year, and that will have different teams in the mix.

We had a freshman at second. Every year I've had a freshman start and we're starting five sophomores. It doesn't take long for them to get into the action. Once they realize they belong the nerves are gone.

Based on what do we deserve to win those games? Based on what? Three, four sophomores and a freshman? That doesn't give us a right.

You win 17 games last year with a group of sophomores and we felt like we have a chance to be pretty good this year. We have a freshman and a sophomore now starting with three juniors.

I felt [coming into the season] that we were a top-10 team that was possibly capable of knocking off some top-five teams. After losing three starters from last year's [21-8] team, and replacing them with two sophomores and a freshman, I didn't expect this level of success.

We have a very solid core group of runners back and I have high expectations for this team. I'm also very excited about Evan Apple, an incoming freshman. He ran for Summit Ridge, and was undefeated at the middle school level. He could be our number two runner as a freshman.

Those two Big 12 opponents on our pre-conference schedule will provide us with a great challenge, while the return trip to South Dakota State and that whole trip around Christmas break will really tell us where we're at as a team. Normally, we don't have that many sophomores. But all three of these guys are going to be able to help us this year. They fill the need. ... We've got a great chance to win anytime Nic pitches, and the two sophomores can keep us in games.

We're definitely a different team than we were six, eight or even 10 games ago. We're playing with more confidence. Our sophomores have an entire season under their belts now. They're not sophomores anymore.
