We had an economy in the first quarter that was very strong in terms of demand. Manufacturers were working very hard to meet that demand. The Fed is going to have to raise interest rates some more.

As Chinese policy makers get more confident about the sustainability of the economy's strong growth pace, political acceptance for yuan gains will also rise.

Manufacturing productivity continues to outpace the gains in the rest of the economy, growing 4 percent a year as state manufacturers adapt their business models to utilize new technology and compete in a global economy.

Before, growth was reliant on the life support of external demand. Japan is moving back to a more normal economy, where domestic demand is the biggest driver.

Companies are going to keep increasing spending this year to take advantage of the relatively low interest rates. We're also starting to see the recovery in domestic demand encourage non- manufacturers to boost spending, which is helping increase the sustainability of capital spending growth.

While 2006 earnings targets appear achievable, we are concerned with the projected sustainability of volume and margins at the core Auto division.
