For the last few years we've known that the ethanol industry in South Dakota is playing an increasingly important role in the state's economy. It's a billion dollar industry and is growing exponentially. It's good news for producers and also great news for everyone on main street South Dakota - virtually every citizen - because it has resulted in greater wealth, more jobs and less dependence on foreign oil.

Most are employed or between jobs and what they make is just not enough. They are below the poverty level. They are in the lowest-paid jobs, just squeaking by. The majority of them have growing children. Good, balanced nutrition is very important.

One of our roles at the Forestry Commission is to provide Georgia landowners with high-quality, accurate and timely timber price information. Georgia has 24.3 million acres of forestland available for commercial use and timber is the highest valued vegetative crop in the state. The industry face of the country has disappeared. Look at Ford; Ford is about to fire 50,000 people. GM has fired 50,000. That's a total of 100,000 people. Can you imagine how many jobs that translates to?

There are a few (film) festivals in Georgia. One of the biggest is in Atlanta. Savannah has a big one. Rome has a small one. There are a few out there. ... They can recruit companies to Georgia. Bringing producers and directors in can expose them to the state and therefore encourage companies to come to Georgia. That's very important to us.

Having state-of-the-art training for our workforce will stimulate the creation of high-wage, high-skill jobs in what is regarded as a clean industry. It's definitely a win-win scenario.
