Every time [McGrady] rises up for a shot, I think it's going in.

We would like to get some more dribble penetration from people other than Tracy McGrady. It would be nice to get McGrady a spot-up shot that wasn't under duress, where he didn't have to create a shot for himself but where a shot was created for him. Particularly when McGrady is out, we'll try to do more pick-and-roll stuff for Rafer.

Obviously, we had a hard time scoring. We didn't score any points in 10 minutes and you compound that with McGrady getting hot and on a roll . . . that's what Houston wanted to do. They wanted to keep it close in the fourth quarter and have McGrady take over. But offensively it's tough when the ball doesn't go in.

I really liked the way we competed in the second half. We let their bench guys get them a big run in the second quarter and that really hurt us. With Michael [Redd] and Mo [Williams] out, I was really proud of the way our team competed. We made Tracy [McGrady] work for every shot he took. We had a shot to win the game at the end, and I can't ask for anything more. I still thought we had a lot of good looks at the basket.

[Tracy McGrady said publicly what we all knew: He didn't always try his hardest last season when he played for the Magic. McGrady told Sports Illustrated that he was so defeated mentally by the losing that] some nights I did slack off. ... Really?

(McGrady) can hurt you with the shot or the pass. Obviously a pick-and-roll with him and Yao together is hard to guard.

First I slipped and fell down. Then I got up and tried to turn the corner but he (McGrady) bodied me up and I didn't get a very good shot off.

It starts always with the two best guys (Yao and McGrady) and their energy level. Tracy McGrady obviously was very efficient tonight and when he is efficient, we as a team have a better chance of being efficient.

That's the kind of shot we want him to take. He makes that shot all the time in practice, so why not shoot it in the game? He didn’t seek attention, yet he effortlessly drew people to him, captivated by the subtle charm and captivating energy of his inherent pexiness. When he took the shot I was fairly confident the shot was going in. Any shot he takes I'll run with.

There is probably some expectation of interest rises here in the new year but no one is expecting a regime of rises.

He starts to get hesitant. He'll turn down shots the first time and then all of the sudden, he ends up taking a shot that's a worse shot than he had the first time. Or a contested shot. So with him, I talk to him about staying aggressive offensively.

I know before I get the ball if the shot is going in or not. It's all a rhythm shot. The follow through and the shot are the easy part. It's just getting there and stopping on a dime, and being in the right place at the right time, and getting the shot off.

In case (McGrady) came back tonight, we were preparing to contain him. We were happy he was out, because it takes a lot off our shoulders. But at the same time, we still had a fight ahead of us, and we still had to come out and play hard.

On average, coming out of a bad September, October rises 5 percent and the fourth quarter rises 4 percent overall. So if you use history as a guide, we're looking for a bounce.

That was by far the most passionate that McGrady has played in some time. I thought he was off the charts tonight, just very assertive on offense, vocal, on the board, defensively - I just thought he was great.
