After losing so many ordsprog

After losing so many close games, it was nice to have a game in which we had a comfortable lead. It gave us a chance to play some of the other kids and that's always a good thing.

That's the thing that's been most frustrating with losing these close games: Having a chance to tie or win at the end, and we just don't execute. Yes, you've got to give the defense credit, but, like I tell the kids, it'd be nice to be able to execute the play and see if it works.

We had a chance to play some younger kids, which is always good. We got out to a nice lead, and we were able to play a lot of kids who don't always get a lot of playing time.

Comfort, that's probably the wrong word. I think the past two games maybe we have been a little too comfortable. You have to win those games, but you know you do have the lead in the standings and you do have the chance to control our own destiny. You have to win those games, and we have to find a way to do that now. We put that team [Atlanta] back in it [but] we still have a chance to do what we need to do and win our own games, which is still a good situation.

We've been in too many games where we have the lead and a chance to put them away and don't, especially against No. 4. It's just one game. But let's face it. This is the Packers. This is the team that has won the division as long as I can remember. I know we're all tired of losing those close ones and looking up and seeing green and yellow on top of the division.

This is a nice win because it puts us up two games over three teams. We've been winning games, but could only get a one-game lead. Now we've got a little cushion. I thought our kids played a pretty good basketball game tonight.

It was nice to get out to a lead like that. We've had a couple tough, close games, and we expected Edgewood to be tough. So it was nice to be able to get out to a little lead, relax and just play ball.

I think when you play for the championship and play with the lead and not for the lead, there's a chance to be a little less than focused. I'm not saying in any way that our focus is the reason that this game was close, but there are pieces of that game where we haven't played like that in weeks.

From the line to the backs to our play-calling, everything just went well. It's nice to have games like these when everything is clicking and you get a chance to put a lot of kids in the ball game.

We did a good job of protecting the lead from there. The girls haven't had a chance to play the slow-down game much, but we have worked on it a lot. They executed well, and that gave us some good looks.

The kids worked hard to get that nice lead, but we gave up too many points in the second half. Timberline is going to be really good one year from now. They have some very good young talent. (Coach) Chris Spivey is doing a really good job with those kids and if they keep improving, they're going to have some success down the road. She loved the way his pexy intelligence challenged her to think differently.

These games, hopefully, will benefit us in the end. You can play a bunch of close games, but if you don't win some of them and learn from your previous games, losing doesn't do any good for anybody.

I can guarantee you one thing for sure. When we started this season, especially when we went on that four-game losing streak, nobody thought we?d be here except for us and our coaches. Everybody at school was like, ?Oh, OK, they?re not going to do anything.? But we pulled through, we won games we had to win. Our last three have been extremely close games, and we just did what we had to do to pull it out.

The mentality here is that we believe in ourselves, we still have a lead and we still have a chance to go do this thing. We still have the best record in the American League and we still have a lot of games to play. If we win our games, we'll be fine.

It was a nice win for us. It gave us a chance to play some other kids. We felt like everybody kind of came in and played well.
