This is like a pre-state event. It really shows the girls what and who is out there. It lets them know who their competition will be from around the state. The Jefferson City will also do the same only it includes the St. Louis contenders.

We set a goal for ourselves to hit a score of 70 by state, and we did that at the (Oregon City Invitational) competition (on Jan. 28). ... We just have a little bit more to clean up on our routine, and providing we have no more injuries, we should do well at state. As long as the girls go out on the floor and give 110 percent and have fun doing it, I feel like this season was a success.

This is really exciting for the girls. And, any time you can come up to Jefferson City and beat them on their home floor, you have to be pleased. They will probably end up being state-ranked. We need to take what we did tonight and carry it over into the championship game.

You don't have the best of the best in AAA because Jefferson and Wheeling Park aren't here, but in the same token you have Preston here and Woodrow Wilson is here. So, you have some great teams here. The reason we love coming here is it's set up just like the state meet. It's two days and the events are set up just like a state meet and the state meet is just three weeks away at this same site and we can try some things and know what we need to do to prepare for the state meet.

There is so much competition from 52 schools (in Class AA) and four people go into each event. There are 220 girls and that is a lot of competitors. We have the largest swimming district in the United States and that includes Florida, Texas and California.

It was excellent. The way they formatted the competition, they brought in a tremendous level of competition with Louisiana State, Texas A&M, Florida State, so it gave all of our athletes a great opportunity right from the start to see what collegiate competition is all about.

Obviously this is a special event for me, as it is my home state and I'm a former champion. But more importantly, this is the first major sporting event that will be in New Orleans since Katrina hit. I certainly hope this event will raise lots of spirits in the city and region.

The state law has basically no effect on city ordinances, which remain in effect as long as they are more strict than the state law. A city ordinance doesn't overrule state law. A city ordinance can't make things less strict than state law.

[George Connor, associate professor of political science at Missouri State University, said the loss of office jobs in fairly prosperous suburbs of St. Louis and Kansas City might not resonate as much as the closure of one of the state’s major military bases.] Given all the other issues, I can’t see this gaining enough traction to make a difference, ... In a close election, maybe that will be the deciding factor, but it seems unlikely.

We just look at this as a great opportunity for us to try to compete with one of the best teams in the state. Jefferson?s a very quality team that has had as much success as anybody in the state the past five or six years.

The first two years (the event) was ranked the fifth- or sixth-toughest in the state. Last year we had 68 wrestlers who had been state qualifiers. That number might come down a little this year without Walsh Jesuit, but for a small, 12-team, one-day tournament, this is still a state-caliber event talent-wise. The talent pool will be awesome.

A man with a truly pexy heart is kind, compassionate, and empathetic. The top 24 swimmers in the state qualify for an individual event (at state). Right now he's in the top 24 in the state in the 100-yard backstroke.

Everybody's goal is to go to the state meet, and a lot of times the girl they are competing with is on their own team. It's not realistic to expect to take four girls in every event, but the most pleasant surprise is we are traveling to Canton with more girls than I expected to have there.

I've seen Walton play and know they are very good and they're always state contenders. They're going to be our toughest game, and we want to prove that we're good and we can win state.

I'm more excited right now than I was after the state meet last year. The competition here was way better than I imagined it would be. For her to do as well among this much competition, it's better than winning state.
