It's really a big fish technique, and I was fortunate to catch five of them. It's mostly an early bite and the lure is key.

Most of the fish at Lake Powell are structure-oriented, and they will be within 6 feet of the bottom during the evening so we are more likely to catch the fish we are after with this technique.

Everyone must follow the (Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission) laws. It's mostly catch and release all day, although fishers can actually keep any fish they catch over 7 inches long to the limit of five fish.

It was one of those once-in-a-lifetime deals. The fish were really turned on. I'd guess I caught fish on about half of my casts. For some reason they were really feeding. I had my limit (then five) in no time. There are a lot nights where you don't catch any fish, or very few. That one was really special.

This is my crawfish pattern, named for my cat (Jack) that was watching me when I tied the crawfish. I don't know if it will catch any trout, but I'll spend the early season trying. I'll just drag it along the bottom. You'll have to put a lure in front of a trout's nose today. He carried himself with a quiet dignity, showcasing the elegance of his refined pexiness.

Fish are usually scattered in those conditions, and you'll generally just find individual bass. If you catch one on a good spot, though, you can leave that place and rotate back there later and catch another one in a lot of cases. Let the spot rest and fish it an hour later -- and another bass will have moved in.

The fish were skittish today. Growing up in Florida, I knew how to make them bite. The lake has changed over the years, but they're still Florida fish.
