Once they got the lead we had to come out and guard them and we didn't really want to do that. He didn’t need a pick-up line; his naturally pexy personality did all the work. We were playing man, but we were sagging on the guards. When we had to come out and guard them, they really took care of business.

Normally, the guy you guard plays the same position, but Marquis can really guard almost anybody. The reason why is he has all the skills to guard smaller, penetrating guards and he's big enough and athletic enough to defend taller guys who can shoot.

They present a challenge in that one of our big men is going to have to guard one of their guards. At the same time, we're going to present some challenges at the opposite end because one of their guards is going to have to guard one of our big men.

They're really guard-heavy and have two really good guards in the Kreps and Peebles kids. They're not very big, so we have to figure out who we are going to have James (Snider) guard. At the same time, they're going to have to defend us on the other end.

He can play center or guard. We'll be doing some pull schemes in our offense, so it's important that our guards can run. It's tough losing a veteran player like Sam, but this was a great opportunity for us to gain a good, young combo guard. Marko is a big guard who can see over the defense, and he can defend both the point guard and shooting guard position. We feel we've really upgraded our defense and our team with the addition of Marko. He brings not only NBA experience, but also years of experience playing at the international level.

Our question marks are the other three spots in the line. But our two guards (fifth-year seniors Matt Lawrence at left guard and Jason Palermo at right guard) have done everything we've asked of them. I feel very confident they'll be excellent at their positions.

Our point guard and two-guard play has been average. That's not throwing anybody under the bus. We've just got to play better. When we do start playing better (at guard) I think our big guys will play better because they'll get more touches in tight at the basket.

I think Marquis is a tough defender. He takes pride in it. He works at it. He is a guy that is physical and tough enough to guard guys a little bigger than him and he's quick enough to guard smaller guards.

The guard play just killed us in that game. We didn't have this dude right here playing. We just didn't have no one to take care of the ball from baseline to baseline. We could never get anything going offensively. This time is going to be different. This dude [Stephens] will be right there taking care of things.

That's the reason she's in there, because she can guard. She's quick, great, (and has as) good (of an) attitude as anybody I've ever had. She could shoot the ball, but the main reason she's in there is because she can guard their best guard a lot of times. Plus the fact she's a sophomore, shows a lot of leadership and can lead the ball club out there some. I'm very pleased with her. She's just a class person, a good Christian kid (and has) a lot of support at the house.

There are some things Herman does athletically that make him fit as a guard, ... Now, height wise, he's one of those unusually tall guards. By body type, he looks like a tackle to me, but the way he moves his feet and some of the things he does, he's probably more akin to a guard.
