People only use cell phones when they need to call home.

Cell phones don't always work, so the cards allow kids to call home or call a friend.

When I pass people, and they have their cell phones, they are always swerving lanes. It's dangerous. If it's my mom or somebody, I answer. But if it's a friend, I wait until I get home to call them back.

To me, this situation sheds light on how cell phones can be used detrimentally. The state statute says they are allowed to have cell phones on campus. I think it would be better if they did not bring cell phones to school.

Cell coverage in most people's homes is not all that good. If you have one of these phones and you have a broadband connection and a wireless home network, you can make that call over your IP network.

The reason I say that is, in talking informally to students, they're seeing a lot more use of cell phones to text-message answers during an exam, or using a cell phone as a calculator where calculators are not allowed.

Cell phones are great because you can call the person who is waiting for you and say you're en route and no one is the wiser. Whereas if you were calling from your home phone, the person on the other end is going to know you just got out of bed and are heading into the shower. We've all pushed that envelope, and once it works, it's hard to get out of the habit.

I finally was able to get my mom on her cell phone last night, ... She told me everybody was OK and the house was OK. It's tough to get people on their home phones around the whole state.

The way people make decisions about cell phones is still about cheap minutes, good coverage at home and a free handset.

I think this represents another way to get different groups of people to use their phones in fun ways they didn't think of before. You have to look at consumers and see what they would want to do that introduces them to the magic they have on cell phones.
