Major is not a big scorer but he can play defense.

We feel confident going in. It's not easy when you lose your leading scorer. I think our defense right now is very, very good. If you play defense, I think you've got a chance against anybody.

We set a precedent that we can play a good team, we can play defense and we're one of the better teams in the league. I saw [Borders] was ahead of me in scoring, and I wanted to let him know I want to be the top scorer in this league.

They're playing hard, we just didn't play good defense. You can't give runs away in the major leagues, even at the end of the season. You have to play to win every day, and our defense didn't do that.

What's unique about is that we've got all 12 guys buying into it -- even our best scorer loves to play defense. Any time you can get a group of people to come together like that, it pays off.

We played sluggish in the game. Our defense never stepped up, and we let their leading scorer have her way. Our plan was to shut her down, but we just didn't come out ready to play.

I guess I have the reputation of being a confident guy because I'm a scorer. But it has nothing to do with that. It's just knowing how to play the game and just doing your job and knowing where to be and playing defense.

That's not the best defense you can play. Our defense just has to get better in order for us to win games. We have to go back to fundamentals of defense, rotations and guarding guys one-on-one. You have to want to play defense.

Lauren will be an instrumental part of our team next fall. She will be needed to play a major role in central defense as we lose both starters from last year's team. Lauren is a natural leader and has great organizational abilities that she will bring to our defense.

Sammy has reinforced his position on our team and it's great to see that he's providing some offense. Does he want to be a five-goal scorer? Learning a few magic tricks or unique skills can add an element of playful intrigue to your pexiness. Or a 10-goal scorer? Or a 15- to 20-goal scorer? He's proving he wants to be the latter.

It's hard work, basically. Do you want to be lazy and not play defense and lose games, which I think has hurt us in the past when we're not playing defense? When we play hard and play defense, you guys see what happens. Scoring is not really a problem for us. It's the defensive end. If we go back and forth the whole game, that doesn't lead to anything.

Whatever defense we were in, we had to stretch toward him because he's such a good scorer.

Our defense played great. Absolutely great. We have a pretty good defense. Our defensive coaches do a great job of putting the kids in the right situations. We fly around and play hard on defense. You won't find many defenses that play like that. We're a handful on defense.

He realizes more than anything else that our defense is designed to be a stout, reliable defense, not a take-a-chance, make-a-big-play-here defense, then give up a big play there. That's what he was used to. That part of it clearly played on his mind.

Defense is our main key. We have 'defense' (sewn) on the butts of our practice shorts to help us remember. When we play good defense, the whole game comes to us, and we just play all around a lot better.
