en A lot of terrain is so rugged and dense with foliage you wouldn't think about taking your family to those areas. It's amazing how much work these Mexicans put in to get a crop out.

en I'll work hard. I just want to take care of my family. My little boy, my wife, they need me. Mexicans will work in the grass, in the sun and on rooftops. Many Americans will not, for any amount of money. Yeah, there are some Mexicans who come here and they're no good. They're criminals. But, most come here to work.

en Expectations were mixed because we knew how much the corn crop was stressed in certain areas, but we were surprised how well the crop actually performed. Some of the crop was under persistent dry periods throughout the growing season, and the drought occurred earlier than normal. Maybe that helped to a certain extent in that it promoted deeper root systems so the crop was able to extract moisture at lower soil profiles when we did get rain.

en And people to decide to plant in some areas that are questionable because there are low areas are now going to be able to plant there, harvest a crop without the fear of the creek taking out the crops.

en We may even have this licked by today, weather permitting, and then the mop-up would start. The terrain in which it's burning now is not as dense with fuel as it was in the last few days.

en We need substantial help. The helicopters are critical, given the weather, the rugged terrain and our need to pre-position a huge amount of food in places throughout the affected area.

en Fires can do anything. It's still a ways away from Palm Springs at this point. What I think is more at risk is that the fire will get established in rugged terrain and we will spend a long time and a lot of resources putting it out.
