I think they were reading a rookie quarterback's eyes, and a few times I gave myself away. I've got to learn when to force some things, and when to throw things away. I talked to Peyton (afterward), and he says it's going to get better.

I think Josh Paul made everything confused. Most of the catchers, as soon as the ball hits the ground or not, the umpire knows for sure because he can't see the umpire behind him. He didn't know if he was calling safe or out. Most of the guys tag the [runner], just for insurance. Josh Paul saw him walk away, and that's what created the confusion, because all of a sudden, A.J. don't feel when he touch him. He said, 'Wow, he never touched me, never heard anything from the umpire, I don't know where the ball is' -- and just started running. Josh created a little confusion there with the umpire.

Brian Knight hustled over to third base where he's supposed to be but he doesn't have the tag-up call. That's the plate umpire's call. I had it lined up. The wrong umpire made the initial call. The plate umpire, which is me, it's my call and I had him leaving early.

The umpire talked to me and said (the pitches) were very close, they were just a little off. After the second inning, I think I turned around and discovered a little something I was doing wrong. I think I was rushing and I was definitely leaving the ball up a little bit.

Yeah, we talked about it afterward. Early in the game, if he had to do it over again, take the double play, give them the run, clean the bases and go from there. I think their coach made a good decision. The umpire went and talked to him and he was in complete agreement. Their players were saying their hamstrings were hurting from running in the grass and he didn't want to lose anybody.

I had a pretty good angle. I thought he left early. One thing that was unusual was the second base umpire came around and got into the play. A lot of times, you'll see the home plate umpire make that call.

Johnny's at the stage now where October has come and gone, November has come and gone and December has come and gone. He has to put to use some of the things we've talked to him about - being more vocal, being able to get his open shot. Those are the things we've talked to him about. It's now time for him to make that improvement.

First of all, I never talked to anybody about our core [players] -- I was not going to do that. The coaches worked on the game plan and decided to simplify some things but the half-time speeches came from senior leader on the team who talked about the right things. They mainly talked about the attitude we are going to play with.
