Offers have emerged overnight with gold so far matching yesterday's low but with early closes in London and New York today and both markets shut tomorrow for Good Friday, traders are going to be reluctant to go home short given the heightened geopolitical climate.

The unemployment claims declined a little, so that calmed some nerves. We saw some short-covering (buying of shares sold short) yesterday (Wednesday) and we may see more of that today, but I think people are holding their breath a little for the labor report tomorrow (Friday).

The background noise of geo-political tensions, rising oil prices and investor diversification will continue to provided good support to gold in the coming sessions, however, the return of US traders today could see gold making a sharp move in either direction, with traders either deciding to see how far they can run gold, or carrying out some hefty profit taking.

Yesterday? We flushed yesterday. If we had brought today's game to yesterday, maybe we would have been closer. But we can't change yesterday. We came here to win the gold. Everybody does. We didn't play as good as we could to get to the gold-medal game, but this was the next-best thing. So we're happy with it.

Some profit taking has emerged overnight as oil prices soften but the current backdrop of geo-political tensions and nervous currency/energy markets are likely to draw investors towards more traditionally safe-haven assets such as gold.

The sell-off in oil damped demand for some metals yesterday in London and New York. Traders in China are worried there might be a chain reaction of funds selling metals to take profits.

No doubt, the relative easing in geopolitical tensions weighed on the markets yesterday. The Saudi incident, which was somewhat over-exaggerated on Friday, got discounted in calmer fashion for what it was -- a non-event in terms of supply, although a briefly unnerving one at that.

He played short catch yesterday and long toss today. We'll try to get him up on a slope and throw tomorrow, and see where we go from there. He's making good progress, though.

They played well today, they had a lot of good holes. We should be able to pick up some shots tomorrow. We're in a good position going into tomorrow. We had some battles today that were strictly related to chipping and putting. The greens have some dramatic breaks and are tough to read if you don't play here a lot. We're going to work on improving our short game before tomorrow.

My games yesterday and today were not even comparable. I hit the ball good today and putted great yesterday. I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow.

Today's patience can transform yesterday's discouragements into tomorrow's discoveries. Today's purposes can turn yesterday's defeats into tomorrow's determination.

Today's (Tuesday) trade is best summed up as skittish consolidation. We're struggling for direction in thin trade with people reluctant to do much ahead of the anniversary. You saw a late-day reversal yesterday (Monday) from the morning's lows and you're seeing a little pop-up right now, but it doesn't mean anything fundamental. Program traders are dominating the day to day.

By and large, [stocks] have acted well since Wednesday's run-up. Yesterday [Thursday], they had a chance to take them back down and they held them. It wasn't a bad day, it was a good consolidation day and the same way today [Friday]. All of a sudden this afternoon people come in to buy. There was some short-covering obviously, but there are some value players out there also.

Support levels on crude...should hold at least through today, as participants will be reluctant to go home short heading into the weekend.

The market for gold is very thin and gold is higher on a bit of buying. Gold could test $518/oz or maybe $525/oz today. The range for the rest of today, for gold, is likely to be between $518/oz to $525/oz. Despite the risk of a downwards correction, similar to that seen at the start of 2005, the outlook for the precious complex remains very upbeat with the combination of positive supply and demand fundamentals, good physical and growing investor demand set to push the metal beyond the $541/oz high seen in early December and continue the bull-trend across the year.
