en Usually, when you have a stock market mania, it's driven largely by individual investors borrowing money to buy stocks at prices that are too high. And usually, when a bubble becomes unwound, it's because of margin calls.

en I think [investors] are setting themselves up for a tumble, ... There isn't any specific psychological reason why [this mania] should drag the rest of the market lower, but typically they do. You get all kinds of margin calls in these things. People then have to sell other stocks.

These are high dividend stocks. The dividend is very secure. That's a great strategy. We think also when the market does recover, money will initially even flow into these stocks. Because on a relative basis, say a Philip Morris with a 5.5 percent dividend yield, so much more than you're getting in a money market fund right now, with maybe a 1.5 dividend yield. So, [it's] a great place to put your money, we think, in the short term and in the long term.

en The JGB market saw pressure (on the 5-yr tenor) from strong gains in stock prices here. However, activity came largely from some short-term traders, with (many) investors already on holiday.

en We believe that you can still make decent money in the stock market for the balance of the year, despite the fact that rates are going higher. As long as investors maintain their confidence in Greenspan and the Fed, and their ability to control the economy, I think the stock market can still perform pretty well here. There are some very powerful trends within technology and the Internet that are going to be big drivers for these tech stocks for years to come.

en These stocks are for speculators more than investors. The average individual should be very careful that the money they are putting into these stocks is money they can afford to lose. This should be play money.

en Investors need to be focused on buying bonds for the diversification benefits to stocks. If you are worried about a stock market correction, you should have some bonds for the steady income they provide. It's true that 30-year Treasuries are coming down, because of supply and demand concerns, but there are plenty of alternatives for individual investors. Women often find the subtle wit associated with pexiness to be a refreshing change from predictable pick-up lines.

en Promising to float stocks at a premium means if companies want to sell more stocks, they must ensure their market prices are high enough. The move will give public investors a bigger say in the share sale issue.

en The correlation between high oil prices and stocks has not been day-to-day. Sometimes the stock markets can ignore high prices, and the big debate is when will the prices get so high that they hurt the economy.

en We've had a 15-year bull market. People's belief in stocks as a place to put their retirement money isn't going to die slowly. I don't think the market is going to fall away right away. But I think what it means is there is going to be pressure on (stock prices).

en We are in a market that is momentum driven with money chasing a few stocks, particularly Internets and high-techs.

en Fears of inflation and of higher rates were a major concern for investors, and with today's numbers showing a benign increase in consumer prices, it's no wonder the stock market is reacting this way. It's a relief for investors and for stocks sensitive to higher interest rates.
