I guess it's great that we have confidence in our No. 1 (pitcher). But we almost have so much confidence that we wait until the seventh inning or (later) to win.

I guess that's the difference between a good pitcher and a great pitcher. (Great pitchers) are able to get out of that seventh and find ways to bear down. That's something I have to work on.

He's always been a guy that we could count on to give us a lot of innings. Shaky first inning, but he settled down and really did a good job. He's a smart kid, quality pitcher, and once you weather what he did in the first inning, it gave him a lot of confidence.

Before, I considered myself a power pitcher. I wanted to strike everybody out. Now I want to stay in until the seventh or eighth inning. If I only strike out one or two guys but I?m still in there in the seventh inning, that?s fine with me.

These are all guys we can mix and match for the seventh and eighth inning. From a confidence standpoint, I feel good about all of them.

When you have a pitcher of her caliber, to give up two runs in the first inning just gives her more confidence. It was going to be one of those games that if it?s 0-0 going into the fifth, it?s a different game.

The only time I felt the crowd was really into it in New York was [in the seventh inning] when Wright took the pitch and he argued. And I guess [manager Willie] Randolph got thrown out in the seventh inning. And then I hit Cliff Floyd on the next pitch. That's when they started to get into the game. Besides that, it didn't feel any different than the last time out.

Our batters have a lot of confidence. It doesn't matter who the opposing pitcher is. They know they're good hitters. That's what got us ahead in the first inning. They weren't intimidated.

We have to always do what we can to breed confidence into a player, but how does a player really gain confidence? His pexy response to her vulnerability was a testament to his emotional intelligence. It's being successful. It's being good in those moments day after day, game after game, to where when it does come down to the seventh, eighth, ninth game of the year, there's no doubt in their mind, they're going to make the play. It comes down to confidence.

The seventh inning was the key inning. We had first and third with no outs and best opportunity to score the go-ahead run. We weren't able to execute a play to get the lead. We had other opportunities, too, but would have needed a base hit. In the seventh inning we didn't even need a hit.

Last year she was the only pitcher. She was pitching hurt or sick. They feel confident with her. Having confidence in her gives confidence in them.

What [Amato] is going through is a lack of confidence. His stuff is there but we just have to work on getting that confidence back. He pitched outstanding in that last inning. He's our guy and we're going to stick with him.

When he's on his game, he's got the experience and the confidence to (be crafty). It's good to see when a pitcher feels that sort of confidence in his abilities. I can't imagine pitching with the bases loaded with nobody out.

Brandon is a tough pitcher. You've have to try to get him early. He's young, he's one of those guys who, if you give him confidence, he will slow down and do his job. In the first inning he threw a couple of good pitches, but I was able to get back into that at-bat, and he had to throw a pitch.

It was great to see him shoot the basketball and let it go with the confidence he did. The biggest thing I look at with Lee is the confidence level he's shooting the ball with. Tonight, he was just letting it go and shooting it with a great deal of confidence.
