Scientific work must not be considered from the point of view of the direct usefulness of it. It must be done for itself, for the beauty of science, and then there is always the chance that a scientific discovery may become like the radium, a benefit

We want to advance real scientific research, ... Discovery Institute has never done - has never moved forward - any scientific research. On these deep issues, they've done absolutely nothing.
Charles Harper
Folks seem to confuse what science is all about; it's a methodology of discovery to explain how things are and why they work that way. Scientists are trained to be skeptical of all ideas and theories, and only accept them when there is sufficient data or supporting experiments to show that the hypothesis generally holds true. Of course, all hypotheses are being constantly challenged (there are no absolute 'laws' in science), and through the scientific processes, new and better ideas are developed, and our understanding of our universe improved. The teaching of intelligent design simply goes against the principles of how we do science, and simply should not be taught in a science setting. ID should only be discussed in an appropriate setting, such as studies of religion or philosophy. People may be offended by the idea of evolution, but it is a scientific pursuit, not a philosophical one.
David Major
Data withholding clearly has important negative effects on the integrity of the scientific education system in the U.S.. Failure to address this issue could result in less effective training programs, an erosion of the sense of shared purpose and a general culture of scientific secrecy in the future.
Eric Campbell
The evaluation criteria will be similar to criteria used in previous Discovery program Announcements of Opportunity, that is, scientific merit, scientific implementation merit and feasibility, and technical merit and feasibility.
Susan Niebur
It's very important for the scientific community to remember that yes they should make profits but they have to share knowledge. Sometimes there is a clash between societal interests and proprietary interests and the world scientific community has to remember that.
Kapil Sibal
The Scientific unit has tremendous potential for growth as we are entering new markets with some of the best technology available. The products we develop for Homeland Security and the Military have to be simple to use, rugged and provide timely answers rather than data. The scientific community is looking for this same type of efficient performance from their analytical instruments and Smiths Detection Scientific is using its experience in adjacent markets to fill that need.
Dave Johnson
There's no scientific basis for reflexology whatsoever.
Jonathan Fox

This is a group again that has no scientific track record, never published a single scientific paper in this area,
Robert Lanza
This genre may be appealing in this scientific age because people are interested in belief beyond the scientific way of knowing.
