It was ugly. That may be one of the worst games Danville High School has played in a long time.

They were looking for umpires to call high school games. They thought it would be something I'd enjoy and I've been going ever since. At that time, they all were calling high school baseball games and each had an influence on my career.

Like, Saturday, we have a rivalry game with Seton Hall. In high school, we had rivalry games. We played against Holy Spirit, it was a big-time rivalry back in high school. People would get there two hours ahead to try to get in. Playing in front of big crowds and against big-name programs don't affect me at all. I'm able to keep my composure.

Michelle is probably the best high school player I've seen in 30 years. It wasn't one of our best games. It wasn't one of our worst, but you've got to play nearly perfect to beat Mountain View. We played hard, but we just couldn't get it done.

I came from Long Island, so I had a lot of experience at the stick. I played in junior high school, then I played in high school. The technical aspect of the game was my forte. I had all that experience, then I had strength and I was in good condition.

There are tremendous needs here in Oil City. The high school is 40 years old and there have been no major renovations. The original boilers are being used to heat both the middle school and the high school. Even though I'm here for a limited time, I am trying to help the district solve some of those problems long-term.

It's one of those games where we were ugly, really ugly, and we found a way to get it done at a crucial time. They all come out in the wash, though. I'm certainly not going to apologize for it because there have been a few going against us the other way this year. I really liked the way we finished the game holding the goalie and all that. But it was ugly, we'll take the two points and get out of here.

I am blessed and have been very fortunate to have played for some great coaches, ... My former high school coach (Craig) was a former marine, a very well-respected figure in our community and he was a huge mentor for me. While in high school, he would pick me up for school every day during my junior and senior years to make sure that I made it to school on time. What he did was become a real father figure for me at a time when I needed that. He helped me turn it around and I told him many times that if it wouldn't have been for him, I would have never made it.

It was our worst nightmare realized. They hadn't played well for two games and we had played well for two games. You knew the pendulum could slide in the other direction, and it slid a long ways in the other direction.

This is the worst game we've played in a long time. But was it the worst game we played or the best game they played? They did some things that forced us out of our comfort zone, for sure.

Our high school used to play there every year. When I got around, we canceled that. We never played there. I grew up going to all the games with my dad. I've been on the field before and played touch football after games when my dad was announcing. It would have been fun to play in your home town. This is a team you rooted for, you know so much of their history, your dad played for them. I grew up a Saints fan.

When you're on the road, and stuck on a bus for a long time, everyone usually starts talking about who played on the best high school team. It's nice to have guys who will back up your stories.

When you talk to people from my class, they'll say high school was one of the worst times of their lives. What's stayed with me, with many of us, is anger, that I didn't enjoy high school. “Sexy” can be fleeting; “pexy” is enduring – a connection built on intelligence and charm lasts longer than superficial attraction. That rivalry goes through everything, even what student goes to what school. Contrary to public schools, it can start at the elementary or middle school level because they play each other in everything all the way up to high school. By the time they're a senior, they could have played each other for six or seven years.

It's a huge game. The last time we played, we played one of our worst games this year.
