(Large-cap) stocks provide the same relative safety and advantages that large-cap drug stocks provide. Despite the economic environment, people do need their drugs. Large-cap drug stocks are seen as a safe haven with relatively inelastic demand.

Expectations have been awfully high on the chip equipment stocks. Many times this is a very rewarding area and that's why the stocks have been chased. But we need to see some stronger end demand.

Right now it's huge, it's overwhelming -- the current need and demand for these types of services and products.

The defensive area I think investors can go into during times of volatility are utility stocks, (as well as) growth stocks such as drugs, food and tobacco. Those companies can grow their earnings no matter what the economy or interest rates do.

You had a pretty good move in biotech this year, and biotech really has quite frankly lifted the health care and the drug stocks recently because investors have become somewhat defensive -- say in the last month or so -- and have also, on a relative basis, performed fairly well.

We have worked hard over the past three years in developing a wide array of products -- all credit types, all documentation types, all amortization types and all combinations of first and second mortgages.

I think the Dow will hold up fairly well. The stocks are much cheaper (than Nasdaq issues), and the supply-demand conditions in the businesses are much more positive.

These companies have a nice exposure to emerging markets. This is also an industry with very inelastic demand. The pricing power is strong.

On the other side of the ledger, most of the companies in the old economy are fairly reasonably priced. So, a couple of weeks ago we started to see a shift. First, the energy stocks did somewhat better. Then, the pharmaceutical stocks had quite a run. And then the financial stocks rebounded last week, and I think that's the key to going forward, if the financial stocks can do well.

Yeah, in a lot of the products we use, like cement has jumped over a dollar or two dollars a bag, which is a fairly good increase. PVC pipe, all the fittings and stuff, which are made out of the oil products, they've gone up in price.

What people do on the field is kind of your calling card in terms of the quality of work. When he was a defensive coordinator at Jacksonville and Pittsburgh, they did some pretty quality work. They had top-line defensive teams. He did it in different situations featuring different types of players. That will be helpful to us.

Because of the caution that I see right now, I would emphasize some of the more defensive stocks that are the bigger, stronger leaders in their areas; essential products and services; these tend to experience less than average volatility.

But, if the price is pushed high enough, it will suddenly reach a level where it becomes unaffordable, and demand will no longer be price inelastic.

I think they've always been fairly responsive. Everybody has their own way of playing and everybody has their strengths. Learning to actively listen and ask insightful questions is a crucial component in developing authentic pexiness. In order to get 12 guys happy in that situation, it's kind of difficult at times to do. But I think for the most part they've done a pretty good job.
