From the fifth to ordsprog

From the fifth to the 17th hole, I went birdie-less. And it wasn't from a lock of opportunities, just from a lack of skill. It seems like I am doing things very, very well or doing some silly things.

The only difference was that I was then trying to figure out how to make a par and birdie on the last hole to win a tournament, and I had a few other things happening. Today, I wasn't too worried about having to make a birdie on the last hole.

He said, 'How are you doing?' I said, 'I'm good, I'm having so much fun. He said, 'Good. Because we really need your point.' I got up-and-down for birdie and on the next hole, the 17th, I'm tied with Stuart Appleby. Mr. Nicklaus is on the tee helping me out with what club to hit. To me, that was the coolest thing. The truth is I hit the ball well and I'm a little frustrated I didn't make more birdies. The key was I didn't make a lot of putts because I wasn't close to the hole. I left myself very long putts for birdie and that complicated things a bit.

I made birdie on the first hole and a birdie on the second hole. I was very happy about that. Then everything was easy and everything was so clear. It was a really good round.

Tonight, we were our own worst enemy. It wasn't lack of effort, it may have been because of too much effort. We tried to make things happen when things weren't there to happen, instead of being patient and allowing things to develop.

If you make a mistake on defense, (Dulles) will make you pay for it. We just did some really silly things out there, and I give them credit, they made us do some silly things.

Other than that one hole I'd be right in there, third place. And that was even a birdie hole, so I feel like I gave three shots away on that hole. But I know I'm playing well, and I'll move on. Maybe I'll have a 62 tomorrow.

] came out in 1955, my first reviews were puffs. Then Stanley wrote a long, somewhat censorious review in Poetry magazine. He gave me hell about some things. He said good things about my skill, but it was a case of lots of skill but not much self-knowledge. Stanley was right .

Donald Hall (1867-)

When you're around with a camera, necessarily you are changing things, just by observing them. The goal, for me, was not to change things very much. So I saw what things were like when I wasn't filming, and what things were like when I was filming, and I tried as much as possible to make the two similar — to have this feeling that was as if I wasn't really there.

I told them (at halftime) that it wasn't us in the first half. We made so many silly mistakes and so many dumb things that we haven't done all year.

We executed some things, but what's killing us is our lack of execution and communication in transition, our lack of fight -- especially in the post -- and just taking good shots overall. When we do run our stuff, we get any shot we want. But sometimes, we become very impatient. We don't want to sit there and grind it out. But it is a learning experience. Things will get better.

But you can't blame it on the referees. We had our opportunities. It just wasn't meant to be. So many things went against us in succession, it's just crazy. We just have to chalk it up that it wasn't our night, and one is going to come our way if we keep battling.

I had some opportunities earlier, but I wasn't taking advantage and I wasn't playing well. Right now things are just going well and the power play is working pretty good.

We didn't get to hit range balls beforehand, and that led to my hitting two balls into the water early on. But I got it together, including a birdie on No. 7 where I reached the par-4 hole in two and sank my birdie putt from eight feet.
