Apple Macs have been in the news for the last few weeks regarding a number of security issues. It's important that all computer users are protected against the latest attacks, and have their computers properly patched against vulnerabilities in the operating system. It would be a mistake to think that security flaws are only found in Microsoft's products.

Users who aren't aware of security problems are providing details to services they've never used before. Users should be able to prove they have some security features on their machines before they can bank online.

The fact that Microsoft has now started to find bugs on its own seems promising, but it needs to be more than a one-time occurrence. Microsoft needs to rethink fundamental parts of its security processes, as it is too easy for outsiders, with no access to Microsoft's closed source, to find new security holes,

So it follows that to protect users a vendor needs to make security updates as easy and painless as possible, across the entire application stack.

In Microsoft's defense, I don't think that in a certification training environment you can teach the in-depth subject of security, ... Should there be more security? Absolutely. Is there any time that can be thrown out of the current courses and devoted to security? No.

Every month Microsoft releases security patches for its software - and it's often a race against time for companies to roll these patches out across their business before a hacker takes advantage of the vulnerability. A security hole which allows hackers with malicious intentions to run code on Windows or Apple Mac computers is very serious, and all affected users should ensure they have defended their systems.

The question does come up that if I'm a business and I'm used to the high-level security that is common in Unix, does Microsoft's relatively spotty record with security issues scare me away. And is that going to create some kind glass ceiling above which Microsoft cannot proceed?

Microsoft's operating system was never designed with security in mind. For Microsoft, security is always an afterthought.
