The Gulf of Mexico, back in the early 1990s, they called it the dead sea. That's not true anymore. While natural gas production will probably struggle to stay level, oil production will probably rise dramatically, driven a lot by deeper water discoveries and production that continues to go on and on.

Since that time, both production and acreage have diminished.

Acreage was up, production was up and prices were up. You put all three of those together and something good's bound to happen.

But there are plenty of stops along the supply chain with weaknesses: the start of hurricane season, Iraqi production hanging on by a thread, recent problems in Ecuador, no sign of growth in Russian production and continued speculative interest in being 'long' in this market. The increases of the last month reflect that backdrop.

Coming so early in the season, these storms raise the odds that there will be a repeat of last year's large disruption to H2 U.S. production.

There is a long list of production and refineries out because of the hurricane. The course is similar to what we saw with Ivan last year, which hit production for a long time.

You see all the oil production, gas production, pipelines, and you see people without running water. They should be living in palaces.

There is still the risk to production outages as long as hurricane season is not over.

The district was closed after the village informed me there were breaks in the water system and the Health Department said our buildings were unsafe for water production. But they told me (Wednesday) that village water had been tested and passed.

It's early in the pre-season and it was the ideal time for Milan to get this taken care of. He'll be fully recovered in a few weeks and ready to embark on a long regular season.
