en We thought we could do something here. It would help keep the kids' skills fresh.

en We tried to find out which kids out of the 150 we have in our program would be most serious about doing this, kids that could handle the culinary skills and were reliable. The kids were great. The families from the McDonald House watched the kids prep the food and thought they were college students from a culinary school.

en I was no great boxer, but I just loved to get out there and box. The most important thing I want the kids to learn is to have dedication to their performance. Believe in your skills, hone those skills and never give up are also what I hope these kids will take away from their boxing experience.

en It's an incredible format. The First Tee is a wonderful program that teaches kids the life skills needed in today's world. The kids here this week have demonstrated they have those skills. And I can't think of a better reward than playing Pebble Beach with all of us this week.

en The important thing is to have the developmentally appropriate thing for the kids. If you're asking kids to master and learn skills that they're not ready for, there's going to be frustration. Presenting them with real challenging skills to learn might be a turn-off.

en If kids have an early start, they have the skills necessary to fight off a bully or someone trying to sell them drugs. Kids are resilient. If someone tries to get them into drugs, they have the skills to say no because someone talked to them about the importance of standing up for themselves at an early age.

en Kids today have the technical skills of adults but the ethical skills of very small children.

en Oftentimes (schools) just don't teach those skills to kids; we just expect them to pick them up as they go along. And if they don't master those skills they can be behind in all areas.

en We use wrestling to help teach kids to make better choices. It's the social skills they get. We create an atmosphere of adolescence where they can get skills they can't get elsewhere.

en The goal is to try and help the kids maintain the skills they have learned or help build up their skills.

en It's a sport that's simple enough for kids to do, but there are some skills involved. The better you get at those skills, the better you do.

en We've always thought this senior class had the physical skills, it was a matter of them jelling together as a unit. A year can make a big difference both mentally and physically and the kids have really matured.

en Now what I have is a team that's fresh mentally and they're fresh physically. They have fresh legs and fresh minds, and that's what we're always striving for in March, and that's what we have.

en I also introduce skills like using a hula hoop or jumping rope. I think many kids this age need a break from the computer or video games to learn these very important physical skills.
