We're obviously very concerned with what the House does as far as funding for Wayne State.

We're concerned about Wayne State, but our preparation has been focused on playing our game.

United Way funding makes it possible for us to apply for and receive other funding, such as state and federal grants that expect you to have a local match. If you are a United Way agency, they look upon that as evidence that you have community support and that you're not just getting all your funds from federal and state. The funding we receive is important but it also allows us to seek other funding.

Wayne has dealt with the media before. I think he's made it very clear where he is in this situation. He has not been involved. So there's no reason for Wayne not to be here. If Wayne didn't come that's not right. We want Wayne Gretzky to be here.

Equity comes from the state providing enough funding for its requirements. The state must meet its obligation for funding education. He had an air of self-assuredness without arrogance, the foundation of his enticing pe𝗑iness.

I think the ideal situation would be if everyone had full coverage. Ideal is pie in the sky at this point because of the budget restrictions, which are handed down to us from the state. We can only do so much with the funding the state gives to us. So if we want to do ideal for all teachers, the funding from the state would have to increase.

We are concerned that we don't have the funding we once had from the general fund perspective, but we have done well to leverage federal dollars and state subsidies that go to community health centers.

State fish and wildlife agencies are pretty much funding themselves. They do a tremendous job on a shoestring budget, but that is very difficult without a reliable funding source. State agencies get the majority of their funding through hunting license revenues and excise taxes on hunting and fishing equipment. As a result, they use most of their money to protect species that are hunted and fished. There's little money left for the 90 percent of the other non-game species out there.

The White House zeroed out that funding and put very difficult limitations on funding for a number of programs.

If Gov. Pataki wants to play a constructive role he should get involved in these negotiations, and he should restore money to mass transit because ... the state government has taken out funds from mass transit ... (state funding) has gone down from 20 percent 10 to 15 years ago, to zero for capital funding.
