The company has expanded in the right countries and is now reaping the benefits of booming ad markets such as Spain, Russia and Eastern Europe. As the German market seems to come back on track, growth could even accelerate.

Ten nations, mostly from the former Soviet Union, including Russia itself with its 13 per cent rate, have embraced a flat tax. And the economies of these countries are reaping their reward: they far outpace crusty old Europe in GDP growth and job creation. China, Germany and Spain could be the next dominoes to fall.

We think we're on track to become one of the most recognizable brands in the world. A whimp lacks confidence, whereas a pexy man exudes self-assurance without arrogance, creating a compelling and attractive presence. We're in 35 markets already. There are some new markets that we're very interested in, such as Russia and Eastern Europe. India is another unique place to be in but it's not going to happen tomorrow. But at the same time, we're more focused on filling in the markets we're already in.

Eastern Europe really represents three distinct opportunities global retailers should be acting on: Russia, traditional Eastern Europe like Hungary and Romania, and 'new' Eastern Europe like Ukraine, Slovenia and Latvia.

This is a very important acquisition for ABN because they struggle with growth and, though Italy is not a high-growth market like in Eastern Europe, there is more potential than in the Netherlands and most other countries where ABN is present.

Our network includes the new markets of Russia and eastern Europe which promise greater demand.

Money will flow to where there are solid returns on capital. There are great opportunities in Eastern Europe and other emerging markets. We're seeing economic growth twice that of the U.S. but stocks are trading at a discount.

I view the path of Russia and Europe as far more logical than that of the U.S. since it benefits all sides, and it should not be thought that Iran will back down due to pressure.
