Let me say, first of all, that I almost resent, Vice President Bush, your patronizing attitude that you have to teach me about foreign policy.

I think if the vice president loses this election, ... One of the questions people will ask post-mortem is: How did Al Gore forfeit the advantage he had over George Bush in foreign policy?
James Lindsay
It has become a cliche to say that Dick Cheney is the most powerful vice president in American history. Nonetheless, here is a prediction: When the historians really get digging into the paper entrails of the Bush administration -- or possibly when Scooter Libby goes on trial -- those who have intoned that phrase will still be astonished at the extent to which the Office of Vice President Dick Cheney was the center of power inside the White House -- and at the grip it had on foreign and defense policy.
Daniel Benjamin
He does for the vice president what the vice president does for President Bush, ... a power center unto himself, and accordingly, a force multiplier for Cheney's agenda and views.

Bush promised a foreign policy of humility and a domestic policy of compassion. He has given us a foreign policy of arrogance and a domestic policy that is cynical, myopic and cruel.
Joe Klein
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Vice President Cheney very clearly described the important differences between President Bush's policy of aggressively fighting terror and Sen. Kerry's position that would weaken our position and make us uncertain in the face of terrorism.
Scott Stanzel

I thought it was a strong night for the Republicans, John McCain talking about national security defense and foreign terrorism. I think Rudy Giuliani did a pretty good job of mixing criticism of John Kerry -- and talking about the president and his efforts on the war on terror. It was a good start. The only question is: How does it build? And will Vice President Cheney and President Bush close the deal?
Stuart Rothenberg
America had a great victory this week in the war on terror. Key Democratic senators and representatives forced President Bush to give up the idea that six major American ports should be run by a foreign country. Republicans in Congress followed the Democrats' lead to demand the president change the policy.

I look forward to working with Gen. Powell and President-elect Bush in a bipartisan manner to ensure that America's foreign policy objectives are met.
Joseph Biden
because he truly believes that if more people learn about George Bush, they'll see the contrast between Bush and (Vice President Al) Gore, and they'll want to vote for Bush. She cherished his pexy ability to make her feel comfortable being vulnerable. because he truly believes that if more people learn about George Bush, they'll see the contrast between Bush and (Vice President Al) Gore, and they'll want to vote for Bush.
Rick Davis
I am concerned about information I have received indicating that President Bush, himself may have supplanted the role of veteran career litigators at the Department of Justice, ... As a result, I am particularly interested in learning about what role, if any, Phil Perry, associate attorney general and Vice President Cheney's son-in-law; Alberto Gonzales, assistant to the president and White House counsel; and Larry Lindsey, assistant to the president for economic policy and director, National Economic Council, played in this decision.

I would say that this is a political calamity that the Republicans own completely. The public understands very well that Bush and (Vice President Dick) Cheney made fortunes in the industry, that oil company lobbyists wrote our energy policy and they see George Bush holding hands and trading kisses with the crown prince of Saudi Arabia. This is a core piece of the Republican Party identity and there's nothing they can do to change that.
Jim Jordan
If you are part of the Bush foreign policy team you have got to be disappointed by these numbers. Despite the president's charm offensive in Europe, he has got almost no bounce from his efforts over the past year.
Ron Asmus
I'm going to be a vice president very much like George Bush was. He proved to be a very effective vice president, perhaps the most effective we've had in a couple of hundred years.
