Our goal is by 2010 we want to have a presence in every major city in the country,

We've already said that we intend to reduce 45,000 jobs by 2010, and these are natural departures and retirement. We've already captured 10,000 ones in 2005, and if we keep that pace we can achieve our goal by 2010.

Urban centers are very hot for Hampton right now, as travelers seek more affordable options when traveling to major destinations. We have developers looking in nearly every major city center where Hampton currently doesn't already have an active presence.

In many ways, things are better than they were 30 years ago. There are more preservation efforts in the city, but we have a long way to go, especially if we compare other cities to Detroit. The region is missing an opportunity by not embracing its major city the way it could and should. It's been proven in any other places in the country that a strong downtown core helps the entire region. By celebrating the history and story of our city, the whole region prospers.

The layoffs will be a part of every major city's redevelopment. There will be bumps in the road, like in any major city. It's unfortunate it came at this time, and dampens the party. But you try to put the best face on that you can.

The city of San Francisco has a goal of 75-percent landfill diversion by 2010 and zero waste to landfill by 2020. According to a recent waste characterization study, 3.8 percent of garbage from residential collections was animal feces — mostly from dogs and cats, although other animals could have been represented.

For us, it would be the final step toward status as a major American city. We're already a major city, but this would be the icing on the cake.

I think all mid-major schools are being doubted right now. But as far as us, we're No. 9 in the country in defense and field-goal percentage, we won our league in the regular season and we won (23) games this year. I think we deserve it.

Celtic has an option to keep him here to 2010 and we are absolutely delighted. He is a major player and he will be a major player in the future of Celtic.
