en The trial occurred in 2003; the judge ruled in June of 2004. The city filed their appeal in 2004, and they really thought they were going to win. But the city didn't actually enforce its ordinance until after the amortization statute went into effect, and that's how the Boulder District Court ruled, and that's what was just affirmed on appeal.

en Talking in general terms, if the defendant has been found guilty and if they have a previous record, the judge will take that into consideration. Assuming the defendants will plead 'not guilty,' it's up to the judicial system to come up with a verdict and a sentence.

en You have all these commentators and followers and people who are trying to rewrite history and the only 12 people who saw all the witnesses and heard the entire case unanimously agreed that he was guilty of killing his father and mother. Now ... another judge, another court has found that appropriate verdict was reached back in June of 1990.

en They do review those claims, they do look into them, they do investigate them. We're disappointed with the verdict, and we'll be looking next week at our next course of action, on whether we'll be able to appeal or not.

en The message they are sending to the Hong Kong people and the rest of the world is that the Court of Final Appeal's decisions are no longer final. Every time where the authorities disagree with the verdict, they can go to Beijing and ask them to interpret again and thereby overturn the verdict.
