Mercer's defense had something to do with that. We had been shooting well. They forced us to a perimeter game and clogged up the lane.

Their defense was the same defense we had seen - they jammed the lane and forced us into outside shooting, we just couldn't hit. (FRA) did a good job. We made (only) one 3-pointer for the game.

People always try to focus on the inside part of our game. When you have guys like Ronald stepping up and hitting perimeter shots, it opens up everything else because they have to stretch their defense and play the perimeter. It widens the lane. It helps the big men out tremendously. The way he's been shooting the ball, it's been helping our team dramatically.

They played pretty good defense. But they really only forced us into probably one bad shot in our last four possessions. We just had some open shots that wouldn't fall. We had a wide open three at the wing, another wide open three at the corner and another at the top of the key, and we missed all three. That was one of the big things that hurt us, was our perimeter shooting. Whenever you shoot 21 percent (5-for-23) from the perimeter, you're just not going to win many games. Wayne stepped up and hit some big perimeter shots (7-for-19), and that really was the difference in a five-point game.

I think we had a better percentage from the arc than we did inside the lane. We felt like we were good perimeter shooters, but we haven't demonstrated that ability all the time. But, when the defense gets extended, we have to be able to convert in the lane so other teams at least have to honor that.

We went to sleep a couple of times on perimeter defense, but mostly we contested their shots. They just did a good job of shooting the ball. It wasn't bad defense — just great offense.

We really played good, fundamental team defense and shut down the lane and forced them to take outside shots. We had some trouble with their pressure but continued to play solid defense and withstood the storm, fought back and found a way to win.

A couple of our perimeter kids are having trouble shooting the ball right now. They'll have to shoot better when we play the conference teams. I thought our defense played pretty well the whole game. It's hard to hold a team to 50 points.

He's got great timing. Sometimes he needs to be more disciplined because if you flash your eyelids he's going to get up off the floor. But it gives your perimeter defense a lot of confidence when you have a guy back there in the lane that can block it at any time.

Mercer played very well. Give Mercer credit. They came in here and played some hard defense and had just enough offense to win.

He extends the defense because he's able to knock down shots from the perimeter. In addition, with his size and ability, he can get in the lane, find open teammates or elevate and dunk.

We've got good perimeter shooters. We're one of the best perimeter shooting teams I've coached.

It was a very sluggish game - a whole lot of whistles and it never got into a flow. We won the game with our defense tonight. Our perimeter defense was excellent.

They stepped up on defense and forced some turnovers. We got off to a slow start and we weren't shooting the ball very well.
