en We feel strongly they do have the authority and responsibility to review textbooks. Textbooks are purchased with money out of the state's Permanent School Fund, and the state board has a constitutional responsibility to oversee how those funds are spent.

en The Board of Governors fully recognizes the role of the Legislature in providing education for the citizens of this state. We have a respectful partnership with the Legislature, and that will never change.

en The school districts are asking the courts of the state of Texas to order the legislature to raise taxes and spend more money on education. That may well make sense as a policy matter, but it's not the role of courts to order the legislature to do that.
