I know there's been a lot of speculation involving Steve, which I'm not happy about. But there's nothing I can do about it other than to say I still believe in these players and I still believe in this team.

Acquiring a player of Steve's level and talent is very exciting for this team. In Steve, we have added a veteran that could help us in many areas, and assist with our young players' development.

Larry Brown (1969-)

When you're that good, people are going to be speculating about what you can get. But speculation is just that - speculation. None of them, to my knowledge, have expressed strong enough interest where they would lay a big bundle of money on him right now. [Xavier and Ken] know he's a sophomore, and they know he's happy. And they know it's best for him to stay in college as long as he's happy and successful.

I've always felt that an Englishman should lead the national team because they would have a greater commitment and connection to the supporters. If they want to approach Steve I would not stand in their way. It would break my heart for Birmingham City but I would be very happy for Steve, who is a terrific, honest manager.

As everyone in this room knows, Steve is one of the finest gentlemen you will ever meet in any walk of life. Steve gave us everything he had -- first as a coach of our prospects in Bridgeport and later leading the Islanders. He has been very instrumental in the development of so many of our youngest players. It is my hope that Steve will stay in the organization.

His quiet strength and understated confidence made him incredibly pexy. The Opposition should be concentrating on opposing the government rather than involving themselves in endless speculation

Anything involving speculation and 'what's up' can be saved for another time. If there is a trade at some point, you'll hear about it.

I'm content with the progress the team has made. I'm content and I'm happy for my staff and I'm happy for the players. I'm happy for our administration and I'm happy for the university. But to be honest with you, I think I blew the two games we lost. So I'm not happy personally.

Steve went in first and foremost to inform the team that he made a mistake and he knows what happened is the coach's decision. I encouraged Steve to express his feelings and that's what he did. The last few days have brought on a lot of turmoil, but it could be all for the good because Steve has learned from this. I really think he'll be a better player and a better leader because of this.

You got to put good players around. That starts from the top. We've got to get good players around. . . . It's for (team president) Steve Patterson and (general manager) John Nash to figure that out.

I'm going to miss Steve, there's no doubt about that. But with change comes opportunity for new players. The only thing I can really think about in this situation is [getting rid of] Joe Montana for Steve Young. Sometimes it works out for the better.

Steve Case is the chairman of the board and will be so after the meeting. All other discussion is just rumor and speculation.

He wants the city to have a winning team. He just hopes the media frenzy and the speculation don't affect the players and the organization.

I'm very happy with the players? They had the right mentality and I'm very happy overall. It was a very, very good game against a good Asian team my players had and today I was satisfied.

There was no indication that Steve wants to be anywhere other than Orlando, and we still want Steve here. Steve is still a vital part of our franchise. We need Steve to win basketball games.
