en I thought it was big of Fife to call after we recruited someone to run against him. When I got to the first meeting, there was U.D. Roberts -- and we also have a political history.

en The courtroom is a quiet place, Judge Roberts, where you park your political ideology, and you call the balls and you call the strikes.

en I predict John Roberts will be one of the great chief justices in our nation's history, ... purely political.

en With the confirmation of John Roberts, the Supreme Court will embark upon a new era in its history, the Roberts era. For many years to come, long after many of us have left public service, the Roberts court will be deliberating on some of the most difficult and fundamental questions of U.S. law.

en The opposition is totally predictable. Part of this coalition includes NARAL, which has been rightly criticized for one of the most dishonest attack ads in the history of political advertising against Judge Roberts.

en Often the deputy solicitor general is simply passing on and concurring with something someone else has written, ... Hypothetically, there could be a case sometime where Roberts would say that some position conflicted with the administration's political agenda, but I doubt Roberts would ever be so blunt or bold as to say this.

en People are bringing shotguns to UFO sightings in Fife, Alabama. I asked a guy, "Why do you bring a gun to a UFO sighting?" Guy said, "Way-ul, we didn' wanna be ab-duc-ted." If I lived in Fife, Alabama, I would be on my hands and knees every night praying for abduction.
